nathan,
what makes it "a winner" compared to what you had before?
I'm not saying LBA wasn't also a winner, there's nothing wrong with the sound I've been getting from LBA transformers. It's going to be a subtle difference over the LBA that I've been using, like the difference between Jensen and LBA was, but I like the way the frequency response came out, and I wanted a different impedance profile, it affects the feel and response a little bit. How much you actually notice it will depend on a lot of things, and in a mix it may not be noticeable, like the difference between handwired and SMD.
But a quick data point for reference, typical pedals and amps for electric bass have an input impedance of 1MΩ, whereas it's common for upright bass to see 5.6-10MΩ. Jensen's D.I. transformers have an input impedance of 140kΩ, whereas my new transformers have an input impedance of 2.2MΩ. I don't know what LBA's are, he hasn't published that data.
Does it make everything else obsolete garbage? Absolutely not. But I considered it a worthwhile endeavor, and it's something I've always wanted to have. There are some other specifications that make it easy for me to work with as a builder, and that was one of the main factors.
How about the HPF, is that another change in Finally v2?
Oh right, forgot that bit. I'll edit the post. That's important.
Does that include my Finally from the very first production run?
It does not, I guess to be completely accurate the Finally that has been sold for the past few months has actually been v1.1 which run at 350V, whereas the original v1 like yours are 235V.
