Ok ok...I’ll admit it .... I am addicted to these pedals and now I am eye ballin the More. So far I have the Finally (great), UA (also great), and the Slampegg (still great). Would a More be redundant? What would it add and where would it go in my signal chain?

More is a VERY subtle tube warmer that has a lot of optional boost on tap. It will not overdrive. It's a kleen musheeeen. IMHO it will not add much to a circuit that already has other, coloured tube pedals in line (like your UA and Slampegg). I had one and was unable to hear it in line with my UA when I set it at unity gain. Others on this forum will disagree with me, but that is my experience. If you want a clean boost, it's great. Keep in mind that unless it's tested at unity gain, the simple added volume alone when engaging the pedal can be easily confused with tone enhancement. This is true of any pedal.

Totally agree with Lomo.

You can use it as a clean boost so for solos etc and I doubt that there is a finer boost pedal on the market in that regard.

Or you can use it to give that tube warmth.

In front of my baby sumo power it it's subtle but noticeable in front of my Ampeg PF50T it is much much more subtle and at unity is only just noticeable.

The more tubes in your signal path the less it will bring, but if you you a mainly SS signal path then buy it!

If you’ve ever used IR’s the More is like going from a 2x10 cabsim to an 8x10 cabsim. I wouldn’t describe it as warmth since it doesn’t affect the eq that much. I would say saturates is a better description; it makes your sound bigger.

I probably wouldn’t use it as much going into an Amp/Cab, but direct only, it’s very useful IMO.

Not sure if it helps, but I've been working on adding more details and videos (where they exist) for my pedals. No direct side by side for the two, but individual videos for each are up.

Elementary – Sushi Box FX

Underground Accelerator – Sushi Box FX

I just got around to watching these (and the JCE) videos. I think they do a pretty good job in showcasing the tones in these pedals. I was a little surprised that the eq's seemed really subtle though. That's not my experience, but I typically play through headphones without any cab sims/IR's.

I was also surprised at the clean gain available on the JCE. In the video, it looked like they had to have the gain set above noon before any noticeable breakup occurred.

My experience with the EQ on the UA and Elementary also differed from theirs. Don’t know if they were maybe running them at such low volumes it made it seem more subtle or what. Not that they’re dramatic to the point of it being a negative, they are pretty useful and the tones can vary a lot.

I get a lot more tonal variation and saturation characteristics with my pedals especially the JCE which is brilliant on bass as well as guitar. IMO the second tube stages and @Sushi Box FX tweaking make this very usable.

Folks just don't seem to grok that passive tone controls are not active EQs that cut and boost, but they offer such beautiful characteristics not easily done with a EQ.
If you need that use an EQ or an more modern amp.

Under what circumstances would you use one over the other? Would you use them in series?

The UA and Elementary? Both on at the same time? I don’t know if I would ever do that. They are not too dissimilar from each other. The tonal character is a little different, but the EQs seemed similar to me. Prior to breakup, I found the Elementary to sound bigger, but a tad bit more scooped. Driven past breakup, it seemed the Elementary took a little more of the lows away than the UA. That could just be my jacked up ears though, so take this for what it’s worth.
I only have the Finally now and just like the added tube goodness with a little breakup. If I was going to pick a UA or Elementary, I would choose UA if I wanted any amount of dirt and Elementary if I wanted clean.

It is noted that your experiences may likely different from Parzival’s.

also one’s experiences change with different tubes, mostly in the amount of gain they have.

This is exactly what I was curious about as I might be looking for a bit of a smoother overdrive next. I really like how my Slampegg sounds direct through my amp's power amp, but now I'm wanting a little more. I still have a lot of road testing to do with the Slampegg so it'll be a minute before I settle on something but a lot of people here seem to like both the UA and the Elementary, which is why I was curious about a comparison. Thanks!

Do you use a DI? If so, the Finally is an excellent option, especially the updated model. You can run to FOH and give it some tube character and also have the option to run it to your amp and dial in a little overdrive. The new version with the separate levels for FOH and Out to amp is just what the Dr ordered. I get the gain set like I like then adjust a level for FOH and one for Amp. Then there are points in the show where I want some harder edge and I switch on the Amp out. I have a tube preamp on my amp and running the Finally into it really gives it a hard edge. Sounds great, but not for all songs so it is great to be able to bypass to dry out. If you are also wanting that EQ character, the other pedals would be great to consider. I have a preamp I like so the Finally is all I need.

I actually normally just use the amp's DI out as, until now, the only actual bass "pedal" I've owned was a HPF for my upright! I've always loved having a very clean and clear sound (I'm coming out of the jazz world primarily) but as I'm playing more and more and doubling more and more I am, of course, wanting to experiment with my sound more. So there's a lot of testing I need to do to see what works for me, particularly (obviously) in live settings. It looks like some of the things that Nathan has cooking are going to be real hot items (Furthermore and Grand Slampegg both have built-in HPFs (!) from what I read earlier in this thread), but I am really curious about other players' experiences with these interesting little devices as I'm interested in expanding my sound palette.

My most often uses for the MORE is paired with the Ictineo or with one of my keyboards or when recording an acoustic/electric guitar.

I didn't need to hear this. I'm currently using an Ictineo (at the end) < SA Atlas < minitube Slampegg < PPB. The Slampegg is set more or less flat. I like it a lot. The Ictineo and the Slampegg are pedals I've tried to move on from but kept coming back to.

The Ictineo is such a great sounding pedal I have 2 one on my recording board and the other in my "Studio Go Kit".

I run a UA and a DW (Elementary + a triode) along with an SVPre, all routed through a custom switcher designed to switch between pre's. It's midi controllable as well.
I use the UA as my most commonly used tone, set with bass and treble around noon, mids dimed, and the gain to just break up if I pull hard. I've got a few options ahead of the pre's for boost/drive/distortion. The tone to me is very 'fender', old school, a bit squishy.
The DW I have set clean, clean, clean. Bass and treble around 1 o'clock, mids about noon (sometimes higher). Gain is set to be very clean, no matter what's going on before it.
The tone here is much more modern, scooped, solid bottom, crystalline top.
Then of course the SVPre for that ampeg grind.
I've said this before, but it's worth repeating. Much of my need/desire to have three preamps on the board comes down to feel, and how the feedback I get from the strings to the speaker, changes how I approach songs. That dynamic squish I get from the UA, the immediacy and punch of the svt, the big blooming bottom all affect, not just the 'what', but the 'how' of what I play.

do you have anything recorded anywhere? I’d love to hear what you’re doing with the synthy stuff and V3.
