The TalkBass G.A.S. Test!

I've said it before. Bass-wise, I love my Fenders/Squiers, and only GAS for one thing: A mid seventies Rickenbacker 4001 fireglo in fair to excellent condition.

...

L-R: Fender Jazz bass; Squier Affinity Jazz V; Roland Juno Gi; Martin DM; Yamaha YPT-240; Squier Stratocaster; Squier Bronco Bass; Ovation Celebrity CC245.

20 points. Though I just resolve a GAS issue.

I just sold my '92 D-28 to buy a Big Al 5'er. Too much a liability just sitting in the case.

I've already played the Big Al more in the last week than I've played the Martin in 6-7 years.

Strange thing about my 90 score is I seldom make a big purchase- I spend inordinate time on TB classifieds and eBay.
Only.two "big" purchases in 2013- tom martinson 5 string nessie which was a second- the work it needed counts, and a Hartke amp I picked up forn$199 on guitar center used site.
I use online ads as bass porn- I stay pretty steady at 8 basses and 3 amps and two small cabs.
Now, upright bass strings is another story! Two months ago I spent over $100 on a Pirastro gut G string.
My point is this- a high score on thus test simply means one spends too much time shopping. I am willing to bet there are guys on here with scores under 30 whom have poor impulse control who have 3 times the basses I have-just a thought.

Nukes_da_bass is spot on about the porn dynamic. The last several months, I've actually reduced my bass arsenal from seven to three, as part of a "just-the-tools-I-need" minimalist phase I'm in. Yet I'm spending more time here than ever.

I have another potential question for the OP:

Have you ever unboxed your just-purchased Music Man Stingray 5-string in the shipper's depot (Fedex, in this case) and let the passing-by drivers and package handlers play it and ooh-and-ahh over it for nearly half an hour? (This is a true story - an awesome experience, I tell ya, with several offers to buy it on the spot!)

:D
