Hmm... not sure Mike. What do you actually see when you go to the site? If you're using a 3rd party browser, make sure you haven't gone to overboard with security settings. Some folks set things so high that they can hardly see the web. There's a link to update your browser's Flash player in my last post, it only takes a minute maybe to update, you might want to try that also. If it doesn't come back on for you, please let me know. It tests OK from here in IE, Netscape and Firefox. What browser and OS are you using?

Paul, your "run of the m.." stuff was not perceived like a downgrading by me, but I think people hesitate to submit their basses wondering if it's appropriate or not.

I think one useful indicator is that if the maker/makers of an instrument are long dead, then yes let's have some pics and hear it's story.

If the maker/makers are alive and currently producing, then the factory examples probably wouldn't make it. Preface that with "never say never", and by all means anyone who's not sure should get in touch with me.

TB's modern makers are welcome, and I think it's accurate to say that bass luthieri is at a point equal to or above any points in history. Martin, let me know when you get some nice pics together.

I spent some quality time today with Ken's newest English bass... uh, tissues please. Sounds like the Gilkes on steroids... plays like buttah. The fact that i was using a Bultitude bow certainly added to the sound...

I sold my Testore copy to Nami Akamatsu of the Indianapolis, and Ju Fang is trying the Carcassi model. There are some pics on my web site but they're not too good. A friend took them because I can't find all the stuff that goes with my camera!
It seems like anything smaller than a bass gets lost around here. I am currently working on two basses, two cellos, a guitar(archtop for me), and just bent ribs for another cello. I'm out of bench room!
I need to concentrate on getting a couple of these completed.

Hi Paul I'm glad you liked it.
It's not French polish, it's Waterlox [I got the Idea from a post by Arnold Schnitzer a few years back], but I applied it as if it were French polish. I pretty much followed Ken McKay's finishing essay that he posted at mimf.com: yellow ground, artist oils mixed with waterlox applied by hand [I was red handed for a while from this] for coloring and a few clear coats and rubbed out with rotten stone [this is very summarized]. The shine came from a final buffing using novus 2 fine scratch remover; Nick Lloyd recommended this stuff a while back. The dark color of the varnish of the top made any and all scratches overbearing and dull so novus 2 was the best fix.

If anyone can't see the changes, please clear the cache in your browsers, your browser will retain old copies of sites to make your surfing faster. In internet explorer, it's Tools/Internet options/Delete temporary files, and in Firefox it's Tools/Clear Private Data/with cache checked. Let me know if you still can't see it after clearing the cache.

Now let's hear some ooohs and aaaaahs for the last handful, there's alot to see there.
