it's to minimize the travel involved in an east vs. west series. the idea is everything up to the conference finals is theoretically geographically manageable, whereas the NBA finals can involve huge trips, i.e. Los Angeles and Orlando being on completely opposite sides of the country.

I can tell you from experience, jet lag can be a real thing...I think it's a good setup.

Last time I was on a plane was during the Carter administration
I'm not sure whether I like it or not, but I was curious. It makes sense.
Fortunately, the NBA takes jet lag into account by allowing two days between games 2 and 3, when the teams have to travel--and three days between games 1 and 2 for no damn reason at all.Spent much time flying back and forth across the country lately?

If we made 1/4 of the shots we put up in the air we would have won. We were getting good looks, but we were completely unable to follow through, the Lakers took that one fair and square Kobe played great.
Personally I think it was the "jitters", even Pietrus (Air France) was throwing air-balls. We will have to see how game 2 goes.
Jameer looked great out there, when he first hit the floor it was like he was only out one game.

Yeah, that's about as accurate as possible. Definitely was a case of "jitters", the question is will they lose them? Based on past performance, YES.
If they were hitting their usual 40%+ it would have been either close or a Magic W. However, they weren't and the Lakers took advantage of it, a clean and clear "W" for El-Lay.
Won't be the same tomorrow, I betcha. (I still think it'll be a "split", they'll come back on fire tomorrow, P!$$ED at themselves for their poor play Thursday.)
Nelson was unbelieveable for someone that had been sitting since February!
I hope he can keep that level of play up for the whole series.

We started to come out of our coma, the series isn't over yet. Maybe the home crowd will give them a boost.
Lakers played great, I don't like the blatant reach-ins that they got away with on Howard, there was about 3 or 4 that went "unnoticed".

There are were bad calls for both sides. That's life. I certainly wouldn't say the refs had a bias.
Yeah, I almost agree....there was a call on Pietrus for a "foul" on Bryant that was clearly a clean play (he didn't lean in at all, just jumped straight up - Bryant is in LA, maybe he should get an Oscar for his flops?), fouling Pietrus out on something like that was a travesty. :scowl:
...however, how about that from behind shot block on Bryant by Turkoglu near the end of regulation, that was a thing of BEAUTY!
...damn shame Lee couldn't knock down that layup on the inbound at the end of regulation on that inbound pass...

There were also a few turnovers that were a bad call too, like the one where they said the ball bounced off Kobe's knee, and it didn't. Even the commentators pointed out instances of traveling, and 3 second violations that favored Magic. I think all and all there were bad calls, BUT it was pretty evenly spread out for both sides. So Gard, whatever happened to your Magic in 5 call?
