I almost pulled the trigger on some lower level seat tix for Monday's game... I couldn't bring myself to spending the coin on them though.

The TB NBA Playoff thread

Kinda fell out of watching the NBA, but this is getting exiting. Kinda been watching the Nuggets since there homestate team, and I really hope they can beat the Lakers. 2-1 so what, we'll beat the California Pansy Lakes, you'll see.

The Lakers give me heart burn, they have so much talent, and then play the No-Gets so close, still, Kobe is tearing it up, Ariza looked good tonight. But Fishers still cold, and Bynum isn't doing it. The Lakers offense running hot and cold worries me, and they never have really showed the defense they did in the early season. Still, I sometimes wonder, even during the regular season, if they aren't keeping it close almost on purpose. You know, making it interesting. When they want to, they can score at will. I just wish they would want more often! The No-Gets
Don't stand a chance, but Lakers-Clevland could get interesting for us Calif. boys (I only live in Oregon, my hearts still in LA).

yeah, that's a lot of bass gear. as much as i love the lakers i have yet to actually purchase tickets, i've only gone with comped tickets. monday would have been a sweet game to attend for sure!

Sometimes I really hate Hedo.. He should have been on Lebron like he was his meal ticket in that last second, instead he was like 5 feet away from him.
What "Ron" Van Gundy should have done was keep Piétrus in for last second because he was on Lebron the whole night like he wasn't scared of him.

The Thuggets have committed two major league chokes on inbounds plays at the ends of close games, on the same attempted curl pass at the top of the key. The same defender even stole both passes. This is not the mark of a championship team. 
As for the Cavs/Magic, Varejao can't guard either Lewis or Turkoglu, and since he's only a garbage man on offense, the Magic can just sag off of him and clog things up defensively. The Cavs either need someone at the 4 who can spread the floor, or they need to post Flopejao and bring Z out on the perimeter. That was a great and classic shot by Lebron, but the Cavs have some work to do. Turkoglu talks too much trash for his game.

Definitely. I've been to preseason and regular season games before, but I'm yet to experience a playoff game. If it was the Jazz there, I probably would have went to a few playoff games!

I want you to keep in mind that, according to a recent feature article on ESPN, Chauncey Billups was astounded to find that the Nuggets had no (edit: underneath the basket) inbounds play when he came to the team. If Karl and his assistants didn't have one, it's either because a) they just couldn't come up with one, b) they knew their personnel was ill-suited to executing one, or c) both.
I'm pretty sure that's the only one they have now, and it's been well-scouted. Add to this that the Lakers have defended inbounds passes well in the past few years (remember when Bryant told Smush Parker, "You steal the g**damn ball!" on an inbounds play- and Parker did?)...
The Cavs brought Z out on the perimeter a couple times, but he ended up past the 3 point line. He's a good shooter, but that's too far. I'd let him take that shot, too.

You know the Cavs have it bad when the only they can do with Dwight is foul him. Their team is garbage, Lebron is the only good thing they have going... Seriously. They can't spread butter on toast let alone the Magic D.
I feel bad for Lebron, he is carrying ALL of their weight.. He needs a better team.

James is obviously a great player, slanted calls or not.
However, great players don't win championships, great TEAMS do.
The Cavs are NOT that, so until either the Cavs give him an appropriate supporting cast, or he goes to a team that is a good/great team, he won't make it to the last dance.
I hope the Magic continue to play as they did last night, because if they do, they could even beat the sainted Lakers, and I could get my 6er back from Maki...

He loved it when the offensive player bounced off the defensive player and fell down - that's how you could tell the defensive player was really set. That clearly wasn't a foul.... no two ways about it.
As for the Magic, Courtney Lee and Pietrus have really stepped up their games in the playoffs. I can see Pietrus guarding Kobe if they make it to the finals. With Jameer Nelson, they might have come out on top of the East. It's going to be interesting as it is.

OK, you got me there, I took you a bit out of context.
As for Turkoglu and his mouth, isn't the psychological part of the game PART OF THE GAME? It's all about getting into the opponent's head, and I think he does that fairly well at times, hm? However, yeah, he's a bit higher on himself at times than he should be....but he's also a lot of fun to watch! Word. Good to see you recognize a punk even if he is on "your" team....and as for the refs, how can they ever give the punk a call, he's never holding his ground...my memory is that if you're moving, it isn't a charge, it's blocking, right? Did I get that wrong?

I agree, if Nelson were playing, it would have been over before it began in the East....even without him, however, it appears pretty clear that the better TEAM in the series right now is Orlando, while the better PLAYER is James.
How about Lee, by the way, a rookie with that kind of balance is a thing of wonder.
My take is that while James is truly a force, without some assistance, the Cavs are in a pile of trouble right now. He's scoring a full 50% (maybe more) of their points every game in the series, and that is no way to make it to a championship game.

LOL. I'm not a Cavs fan. I'm a Celtics fan who also likes the way the Rockets played this year. I suspected that the Celts couldn't go all the way without KG, but I'm proud of the fight they showed. Likewise with the Rockets and Yao, although I don't think they were as good as the Celts with KG. I also intensely dislike the Lakers because they underachieve and whine constantly. They're like the Dallas Cowboys/NY Yankees of basketball. Buy the best stars, turn on the lights, and watch them underachieve and whine. When they win, it's because they at some point decide to put some effort into it. Talentwise, they're always stacked. I'd love to see the Magic beat the Lakers, and there would be some interesting matchups there. Lewis is playing like what Odom could be if he showed up every night. Howard could own Gasol *if* the Lakers home whistle doesn't foul him out. Lee and Pietrus on Bryant would be a great dogfight.
After watching a lot of the playoffs this year, here's my blue collar dream team so far:
Scola/Rockets: plays hard and gives everything every night, and on every play. His skills continue to improve, and he's all about the team.
Battier/Rockets: Not great offensive skills, but a great "foxhole" guy. Fights on every play, never gives up.
Ariza/Lakers: As much as I hate the Lakers, this guy is playing great, and playing team ball.
Perkins/Celtics: Improving skills, but a warrior in the paint, and the will to win. He never mails it in, and plays incredible defense.
Lee&Pietrus/Magic: I put them together because they're doing a lot of the same things, and both are deserving. I think Pietrus should play guard even though he's capable of defending the small forwards. Lee is amazing for a rookie.
Rose/Bulls: played his heart out and didn't cry for momma when things didn't go his way. He's one to watch.
How about Lee, by the way, a rookie with that kind of balance is a thing of wonder.

Pietrus has the defense down.. I really like how he guards Lebron and I am even more delighted that Van Gundy picked up on that and brought him out with the quickness and kept him in there during game 3, he is not scared to put the heat on Lebron and it is working.
I can't wait to see what kind of player Lee will grow into, for a rookie he plays like a seasoned player in the playoffs.. What a steal he was.
