the TRACE ELLIOT thread: Part II

Actually it depends on which one you find. There is an earlier one that's very deep and low, and has the shelf type port, horizontally, in the middle. Mine is the later model that's not as deep, but taller, which I like. Also I re-placed the side handles upside down, so the actual bar you grab is higher off the ground than when they're on 'properly'- so I don't need to bend down so far to lift it up when I need to. All that plus I got it for chump-change, so it's my go-to grit-gig-box.

The 1518 I had seemed a good bit heavier, this one's not so bad, even up stairs. And I'm only a spry 150 lbs...

Oops! Lol... I found it adequate for small gigs, like little old-school R&B and blues gigs, etc. Until recently I was using an SWR stack made up of a Basic Black combo and a Basic 2-Way ext cab. That was nice, but not hefty enough lows for the reggae band.

Of late I've been doing gigs with my Trace AH250 and an Acoustic 301 "Transducer"- a folded-horn 1x18. Weighs nearly as much as I do, use an appliance dolly to move it up and down the stairs with. Sounds pretty great. That won't fit in your buggy though.

For cabs, not much. I think that a small 2x10" (like a Hartke XL) could fit. 1x12" are also fine. 15" are in doubt already. But the 1153 is nice enough and cheap enough in the used market to be worth the risk and the hassle ;)

It's an Alfa Romeo Mito. Not even sure it's available in the USA... anyway, the trunk is already small and I have a 12" sub in it that makes it just ridiculous.
My 15" Trace Combo GP130 didn't fit unless I removed the upper panel. I guess the 1153 is only slightly smaller.

Yeah, finally I am getting a real amp after having been without for years. (Last amp I owned was a Hartke Kickback 15 which frankly I didn't like at all, and the amp before that was an Ampeg B-15 Fliptop, which I did love but ended up selling anyway for some stupid reason.)

The wait is over (Well, almost, won't actually have it for my disposal before Sunday next week) and I am super exited.

The one I am getting is a Trace Elliot GP75SM 130 W used, for the ridiculous amount of 1200Kr (About 178$, and keep in mind that musical equipment is generally a bit more expensive in Denmark than the States).

Now I borrowed a Trace Elliot combo before for when jamming with a band I sometimes play with for fun, and I really do love the sound of it.

This is not the exact same model, and this one will be about 100 W lower, and instead of 4 10" it just have 1 15".

I figure it will not be an issue though, since I can always update with an additional 4 10" cabinet and regarding volume I never got even close to turning the volume up half ways on the other amp, yet still had no problems keeping up with the band.

As said the other Trace Elliot I tried did not only had more volume than I ever need regardless of the fairly low rated wattage, it also managed to get a nice punchy and aggressive sound out of my Ibanez Mikro (in combination with my EHX Blackfinger), even if the pickups leave something to wish for.

Next update is probably going to be the pickups and then a 4 10" cabinet.

If anyone has any specific knowledge about this model feel welcome to comment.

And here my amp is, behold the beauty:

(plus a V-Type 1248 and a V-Type pre not showing, all in two months, I'm so lucky!)
That’s a nice head I have the same one but if it has the BiPolar Bear output stage make sure the grounding wire has a star washer. If not, file the chassis for a good connection and add one. If there is no great ground connection they will blow the output stage and take out any connected cab> search “Bipolar Bear”, i actually changed mine out for a MOSFET board from British Audio I’m not sure if they still make them. I still have the bipolar board but I didn’t want to take any chances
