Check here for schematics...I'm not sure if they have one for your particular amp on there...but you could email them. Shane is super cool, and very helpfull. They also sell loads of replacement parts and other Trace related goodies. :)

Instead of a standard lowvoltage fan they used a harder to get ac fan, and I'm still searching for a replacement (maybe I'll leave it out altogether, I removed the topplate already and my amprack has about 5cm's of clearance above the amp).

The amp is broken, sometime ago it started arc'ing so I think the tubes are gone but I'm not sure. Does anybody have a schematic of this thing (or the poweramp section of the VA350)?

Regards,

Jarno.

Actually for big bass amps, AC fans are standard. Dayton makes several, as well as a few other brands. Check electronics supply houses, not computer or music stores. Radio Shack stocks one that costs $25.

BTW, Trace's published schematic for the VA350 is wrong (at least compared to mine). You need the schematic for the VA400; it matches the VA350.

I just e-mailed British Audio Service. Keeping my fingers crossed now...
What's wrong with the schematic that you have, Psycho Bass Guy? Can you send it to me so I can compare it with my amp?
I opened it a couple of weeks ago, to see if I could spot broken parts or anything, no such luck regrettably.
The build quality is top notch, a cables are neatly routed and tied down. The case, albeit sturdy, is a bit of a pain to open.
One thing I did notice is that they used a fuse holder for HT with two poles, and used only one of them. And left the other one bare  With 700+ Volts of HT this is not a very wise thing to do, I think I will put a piece of shrinkwrap over this.

Regards,

Jarno.

I own a Trace Elliot AH300 12SMX head and I dig it sooo much! :hyper:

Sweet rig! :bassist: BTW, how does it sound with that Ashdown cab?
Thanks!
great really! I had a Hartke VX410 before this Ashdown ABM410 cab and I must say the Ashdown has much more bottom end. It is also much louder (or seems much louder) than the Hartke cab. Also the highs are very sparkling and beautiful (I really like the tweeter on the cab). It has been a real improvemnt to my sound! I also played a Trace 410cab with this head, but I didnt like the cab so much :hiding: ...don't know what it was, but it was just like I was missing something..

I'm also planning of changing the pre-amp tube after reading this thread: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=192336&highlight=trace+elliot but I dont know how to get the amp out of the wooden case? Can anybody help me with that?

Looks like a V-type 300H, which is a tube pre/280w SS power head. Those are supposed to be very good heads. They have the V-type pre amp which is awesome. If it is that head, [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] is selling NOS of those for $450. I don't know what tht is equal to in euros, but it might be able to help you out.

Theres a few guys on here that have those, they might be able to offer more info on them. Hope that helps.

Very cool amp. I have one as well. It gets a real boomy solid state tone. So much that you have to cut the bass eq to keep from shaking the house down. It does have the valve V-Type preamp in it, so you still get that warm tone out of it. Only difference is that clean SS boom as opposed to the smooth round valve power sound.

Definately a great head for the price (for smaller gigs I plan on using mine rather than my precious V6).

You need to post a family pic of all your Trace amps :D

Darrell, I'd suggest trying out the V-type in comparison to what you have. You may like it better or you may not. The AH series have that wonderful PreShape2 which I'm a big fan of.

I'll have pics of my Trace family soon. It's currently separated as I'm preparing to move. Once I'm all settled, the fambly will be reunited.

So how do the D.I outs work in T.E's... i don't really know what to use it for.

Basically a D.I. (Direct Out) is an XLR output which sits between the preamp and power amp (some have switchable pre/post eq etc. settings) and allows you to feed your bass sound directly into a mixing console (if you're playing live) or a recording setup without the need for microphones or anything like that.
