Wow Tom, what a behemoth. Gorgeous. What power tubes are that?

I don't have it in my hands yet, so I am not sure. 6550's or KT-88's for sure (not tall enough for KT-90's), but I can't tell what brand.

One very cool thing (I hope!) about this power amp is that it does have an instrument input. As I generally run my preamps set pretty flat anyway, this may be fun to experiment with. Of course, I have some pretty cool preamps to try out with it, too! :p

Well tom, to be honest I haven't played much with the VA400. I plan on doing it shortly though. I've compared it to my V6 a little and they seem to be very similar beasts (though I like the simplicity of the V6 preamp a little better).

Since I've fallen so hard for this V6 and TE in general, I decided to have some siblings made for it in the Trace Elliot style. This stems from my love of the Trace + Schroeder sound, however my fashion sense couldn't take the two carpet colors.

I present my new Schroeder/Trace/Troeder? 4x10s. V6 be rockin the 8 10s. These should be arriving soon, and there will be more pics to come including some porn shots with the V6 on top (these were taken by Jorg).

I can't wait to play a show with this setup.

That thing is deffo just a preamp. If it wasn't on the wrong side of the world for me I'd be all over it though :D.

That makes two of us! Actually, that is the first one that I have seen, outside of the promo flyer for the Valve series. At least we now know that they really do exist!

Tom.

I'm gonna get some more pics of it, but I just thought I'd shock you all with this one again...

It's an old model 122H combo.

Wow! Every once in a while a check on this thread and the pictures are just great! I scrolled a little back and saw the VR350. Ahh, the warm and fuzzy feeling, that's a great amp you've got there, I really like mine. If the tubes are still the original ones, then the type is 6550A, probably General Electrics (mine were). If you are going to replace those, you might find NOS GE's a bit too expensive.
My amp is broken right now, and when I retube the thing I'm thinking of replacing the powertubes with Svet or JJ. I do think there are differences between two brands of tubes (same type) but I think it's more "different" then "good vs bad".

Regards,

Jarno.

Thanks for the tube suggestions. We'll see what kind of shape the tubes are in when it finally arrives!

Tom.

I am going to have to break one of the rules of GAS and get into debt to try and buy that pre-amp, Personal loan time, family loan time, all stops must be pulled! BTW i don't have access to an ebay account atm, someone really should email this guy and tell him his listing is wrong!

Thanks.

I was thinking about buying that pre as well :p

Does anyone know how I would hook it up to the V8? Would I be able to use both pre's or not (With some foot switching etc). I wouldn't mind something for the studio and some to use live in some songs to add some low mid growl..

to use the pre by itself, i would have a patch cable from the "send" on the XV to the "return" on the V8,, then plug yer bass into the XV pre!

not too sure how you could set it up to switch between pre's...

A guess would be to have a send signal from the pre to the instrument input on your V8, then have a footswitch to disable graphic/preshaping on the XV, but then you'd still have the shapping of the flat-set XV...

*shrug* :)

Can you elaborate on these differences? Any greater detail concerning the power section of the VA350 would be appreciated, as I now have this coming my way:

:hyper::hyper::hyper:

I had to snag this one before natrab or Devilman got it! :p

Speaking of which, natrab, how are you enjoying the VA400?

Later, Tom.
So you're the guy who snagged that one. :)

Nice snag man, I was really tempted by that one. I was gonna stick my V-type pre in front of it and have a rack-mount V6.
