The Trace Elliot V-type Club!!

I have a MK1 V4 loaded with JJ's. It's just so good. Didn't know they were as rare as less than a 100!

Would be nice to get a MK2 (or a V8!!!) for the second channel but nothing a big muff can't fix...!

Out of interest, something I didn't know - I always thought the V-Type were the valve pre amps with SS power amps (300h, 600h). I think my V4 only has a 'V4' on the back - just a Trace Elliot metal badge up front. It was built in '96 (first year of production??). And is there any truth to the 50 or so V4's that were made??

Might need to take a peak inside. I'm sure my V4 serial isn't in the same format as my other TE amps, but there are several QC and a "built by" with date and signature !

Nobody knows how many amps of the V-Types have been produced. I asked the people at Trace Elliot. The answer was, that about 1000 were made of the original MKI V4 and MKI V6, about 25 of the MKII V4 and probably no more than 200 of the MKII V8.

That makes sense. Although 1000 V4 MK1's seems a lot...

I remember seeing a brand new V8 back when I first started playing in a music store in Glasgow. My thoughts were... "that looks so badass - when I'm good I'll get me one of them!"
Popped my Trace cherry with a V8 hooked up to one those crazy Mesa roadreadys... if only I'd had the cash..

My 1995..:DTrace Elliot V-Type 1248H bass guitar speaker cabinet with 4 X 12 Celestion C12T-200E speakers that are as loud, tubby, warm, organic, as four sticks of dynamite.......:cool:

Good luck finding one. They're still out there, but I was always too slow in offering or just too far away. I may know someone that would be willing to part with a Quattra Valve just in case you give up on the V4. I gave up a long time ago and got myself an Ashdown CTM300.

Must say I like this thread. Got 3 x V6' and the '90s V4 along with 4 x 1248 cabs. Use a T-bass. One of the early ones. :)
I have tried out several ways to stack the rig. A couple options you can se on the pix I uploaded.
Here you can see the V4 in the bottom, then 3 x V6 and finally 2 x 5001. Also have 2 x GK Fusion 550 there. At the moment it is them I use.
Sounds great as well.
A couple of months ago I swopped the 1248 upper left, with one like the three others. So now it not only sounds great !! It looks great as well. :)
Only thing missing is a V8. :-(

I've fitted mine with a Telefunken ecc83 (12ax7) ribbed plate in V1 and a RCA 7025 (12ax7) in V2.

The V1 spot is for the first gain stage and the highs, V2 is for the mids and bass.

I find that a Telefunken in V1 brightens the amp up.
In the V2 spot the RCA sounded better.

I've tried the amp with Tung sol and JJ tubes, but liked it a lot better (less muddy) with the Telefunken tubes.

Preamp tubes don't require anything. You can order them matched, or not matched, and you can put them in yourself. You don't need to bias them. As for the tubes that I put in; I'd probably try a different set next time, or like Devils Playground, probably mix them up next time.

Cool, do they have to be 12ax7 only, or could I use lower gain ones?
