Welcome back!...do you still have that original 412 cab?
There is a green tolex V4 on here last week for 1400. In the past few months a V8..two v6's.

I still have my Trace Elliot 1248H 4 X 12 bass guitar speaker cabinet with Celestion speakers.Though I'm always repeatedly rummaging Craigslist,Pawn Shops,California segunda swap meets,as well as online used musical gear stores for an additional Trace Elliot 1248H or 1248 4 x 12 bass guitar speaker cabinet.As you probably are aware that they are uncommon and I have only seen one other one for sale in California at Music-Go-Round in 1998?

My V6 and 78 ray. She still has the original TE tubes. Im going to try some telefunken smooth plates like Mitch s

I have a V6 and V-Type. Both amps have the original TE tubes in V1,3,4. The V6 has a Tube Store Preferred Series 7025 in V2, which is how it came to me. I rolled tubes in the V-Type and found they made almost no difference at all. I went with a current production Gold Lion ECC83/B759 in V2 (I didn't have an Preferred Series 7025s). The difference with the Gold Lion was pretty minimal, but it produced a slightly more open mid range compared to the stock TE tube.

I doubt the difference you will hear with a Telefunken smooth plate will warrant the cost of the tube. I have a few, but have not rolled them in any of my amps yet. I believe the Telefunken will tighten up/lean out the lows and extend the treble. YMMV, but these are not changes I would seek in my Series I V-Types. They have plenty of treble with the stock tubes and IMHO their full and clear low end is one of their most desirable qualities. The only place I find them possibly lacking is the upper mids can be be a bit overly scooped...thus the Gold Lion. But if you have Telefunkens available, by all means please roll away and let us know how it works out.

I can't tell you exactly when production started or when the transitions occurred, but the earliest amps were covered in vinyl. Basically you had the V-Type amps which include an all tube amp and hybrids.

Later, the all-tube V-Type was renamed the V4 and got a cosmetic update (rat fur). They also introduced the V6 which uses the same circuit cards stuffed with a few extra components, two extra output tubes, and different transformers. Much later they introduced the series II V-Types which included the V4 and V8. These had switching preamps and a compressor, and were covered in black vinyl/tolex.

I have an all tube V-Type dated 1995, a V6 dated 1996, and a V8 date 2000. Schematics for Series I are dated 96 and schematics for Series II are dated 2000.

That's really cool. Unsure of value, doubtful, other than it's an incredible, rare V4. Which are all rare, really.

Although, this guy selling John Entwistle's V8 might disagree..

Whether it's provenance gives it any special value depends upon your ability to find the right collector. A few years back, a Matamp GT200 and 200 slave popped up that were supposedly owned by Noel Redding and used in Fat Mattress.

These were offered on Ebay by a studio that was going under. The auction was relisted several times over a few weeks' time frame, and eventually sold for about $4,500 plus $300 shipping. The GT200 alone should have sold for more. I feel quite stupid for not buying them, but I had stopped collecting by the time they came on the market .

Since Eric Clapton is not a bass player, I suspect that no extra value will be added. Was the amp used by Clapton or his bass player?

My Epifani UL905C was previously owned by Alphonso Johnson. Kinda cool but I doubt it will translate to extra duckies.

If he get's what he's asking, he will turn a nice profit (see below). Keep in mind that it's not unusual for V8s to sell for $5,000USD though.

If I interpret the article correctly, apparently Entwistle had two V8s. One sold for 800GBP on Ebay and the other sold for 875GBP at Christies.

Entwistle was multi-amping and using the V8 for mids. It was driving two 12s. IMHO, the amp is not actually ideal for this as the effects loop is between V1a and V1b; I.E. basically before any of the preamp controls.

Course, I wouldn't have argued the point with Entwistle, and if I did, I would have been a hypocrite as I used to biamp an SVT and a Fender Twin and it actually sounded great (although a little hissy).

sadly I’m skint otherwise that’d bung on a credit card immediately. On that same token, unless we get into the festival scene next year I have no need for that kind of power. I reckon the V4 would do fine on an outdoor stage as is!
