I have 2 single 15s my v6 loves too. Better than my ported 10s. From what I've read the best match is any sealed bergantino NV cab. Preferably the 610.
Don't use and 8 ohm cab you will start blowing fuses and then your pt. Id like to have a single 2 ohm cab if possible.

Hello! Was going through my cupboards recently and was greeted by something I haven't used in a LONG time - my old v type combo. Can't make out the model on the back, but in case you guys are interested. Any idea on model?

Mike, I'm really glad you brought my V6! I'm going to miss it, but glad at least that someone has it and will appreciate what 6 KT88s can do...and that you have the perfect cab to pair this with. Enjoy!
Been awhile since ive seen one. I know it's not the more coveted model, but I always prefered
solid state power amps.
Finally joined the T/E V Type club! Just picked-up a Trace Elliot V Type combo last night. Missing a couple of knobs but the shafts are still there, rat fur is peeling (I'll just re-cover it with vinyl anyhow at some point) and it's not cosmetically perfect. Sounds great however but heavier than my Mesa lol Glad I bought it to just leave at the jam space, no more lugging! The serial# is gone but it's a 5001 model made in England. Prob. from the 90's or even a tad earlier, I know very little about these amps. So far, loving it. Will make a great practice amp. Best part, it cost me $80CAN (less than $65US)! For that price, I'm happy with it

Is this a 1x15 combo? I have one from 1995. Great amps! As far as date the circuit board will have a date that will be close.

Hi y'all - I think I'm about to join this club, have a chance to grab a V-Type 300H hybrid amp. I tried one of these amps a few years ago and missed out on grabbing it. I'm fairly certain the tonestack is a Fender/Alembic type thing yeah (i.e. flat is something like 2-10-2 on the dials)?
I can find the service manual online, but not the owner's manual. Does someone have a link to the owner's manual - or can someone explain what the Bright and Deep switches do in rgards to frequencies?
Also - can you get a little overdrive out of the pre? I currently also own a Hartke LH500 that is a similar amp, but these guys stay totally clean.

Yes the tone stack is close to a Fender TMB with a few added switches and components that form the Mid-Shift and Deep circuits.
My perception is the Mid-Shift changes the upper knee of the bass control. If the Bass control is fully CCW (off) the switch has no effect on tone, regardless of the position of the Middle control. In one position the Bass control mainly boosts low frequencies. Change the Mid-Shift switch to the other position, and the Bass control reaches up into the mids.
The Bright switch does exactly what the name suggests. Essentially a small capacitor is switched in to bypass more highs around the Gain control. Capacitors block lows and pass high frequencies. As you turn the Gain up, you may notice the Bright switch has less effect. The V-Type is fairly bright preamp, so you may never use the Bright switch.
The Deep switch is actually a fairly wide and deep mid-scoop.
I don't know where nominal flat is, but my guess is around 4-8-1. I think of it as clock positions, so Bass between 9-10, Middle between 2-3, Treble off or almost off. Of course the setting for nominal flat depends on which position all of the toggles are in.
I do not have the owner manual for the hybrids, but I will attach the OM for the original all-tube V-Type, which shares the exact same preamp circuit.
Yes you should be able to get some drive if you really crank up the gain. However, IMHO this preamp really excels more at clean. But definitely try it and see what happens.
Great amp. My V6 still has all the original tubes. I might try a high gain tube in V1 to see If I can get a bit of grind out of it. The only thing it's missing is the front logo.
I have one of the original tolex V-Types (later renamed V4) and also a V6. Both of them can produce a bit of preamp grind. They start to breakup when the Gain goes beyond 2:00 or so. IMHO these amps really excel at clean though.
I rolled tubes in the V-Type. V1, V3, and V4 did not really seem to produce a noticeable tone change. The tone change in V2 was also very small. I wound up leaving a Gold Lion ECC83/B759 in V2, but it was a hard decision because the change was so small and this is a relatively expensive tube. I selected the three best Trace Elliot labeled tubes and puta them in V1, V3, and V4.
I believe the V6 also has OEM tubes in V1, V3, and V4. It has a Tube Store Preferred Series 7025 in V2. Not sure if the difference is the extra output tubes, brand of output tubes, or the 7025, but the V6 has bigger lows that are really tight and focused. Eventually I plan to buy a couple of Preferred Series 7025s and try one in V2 of the V-Type. I am running JJ KT88 in the V-Type. The V6 has Sovtek KT88s, which I believe are discontinued.
For context, the V-Type and V6 use the exact same circuit cards. The V6 output card is stuffed with a few extra components to support the extra two KT88s. Also pretty sure the transformers are different, although they look exactly the same.
Awesome. I couldn't tell you if this one does or not. It's been holding up and doing a GREAT job at practice. My stage amp is a Mesa 400+ I bought when I was 18 (1995) and it STILL has the original tubes. It's from about 88 or so, I am third owner.
