The DI had no issues or hizz/hum. Can´t believe my luck crossing path with this amp. But that´s no news to you bunch

The Trace Elliot V-type Club!!

Here’s a question: any of you with a V6 or similar using a smaller 4 ohm cabinet you like? Mine loves the big 2x15 cabinet I have for larger gigs , but all I have at home is An 8 ohm 1x 15. I know that’s not great with the V6 and could kill the output transformer. I have been looking at some 2x10:4 ohm cabs for home and smaller gigs.
I like the looks of the Aguilar 4 ohm cabinets, but I seem to not have a spare $1100 at the moment. There's a pretty green one that would match my V6 nicely, though.
As much as I love Aguilar amps I am NOT a fan of their DB 4x10 cabs. Not very efficient and they have a baked-in low-mid hump that wouldn't be a good match for the V6, IMO
FYI the listed sensitivity of the DB410 is 101dB 1W/1m. The series I V-types already have huge lows, so you might have a point on the voicing. Keep the Mid Shift disengaged and I suspect it would probably be fine.
The series II V-types are not as full down low, so a DB series cab would probably work pretty well with a V8.
Lots of people love the DB410, so perhaps I should be less critical of it. My experience has only been using that cab as a backline twice, both times with an Aguilar DB751 (not an all tube amp- but vaguely tube-ish as far as anything solid state it concerned). I didn't like that combination, though I have owned and used a DB751 with different speaker cabs that I did like. For reference, I'm really going for a maximum clean volume sort of thing and I think I'm going for a little less grit and overdrive than most other people who favor all tube amps.
Two speaker cabs that I'm dying to try out with my V6 are:
- The Baer 2x12. It's ported, but I've heard that it is surprisingly good with tube amps. There's one for sale in the classifieds now...wish I was local to it.
- One of the Bergantino NV610 or NV425 cabs. I'm sure I would like these but the size and weight are not ideal for what I do.

The fans on my V-Types are pretty unobtrusive as they run at a fairly low speed.
It´s not that the ventilation is bad on the head. If you take f.ex. Vox AC30 combo amp it got way worse ventilation, all closed in and driven like it was stolen. The V-Type on the other hand is open to the back and top. Anyone who has unplugged the fan?
My V-Type has a replacement fan. So apparently it stopped working and the tech thought it was important enough to install a new one.
For comparison, I have an Orange AD200B that does not have a fan. Four 6550s in the Orange vs four KT88s in the TE. One difference is the Orange is biased at 18-22mA and the TE is biased a 30mA.
Another comparison. I also have a Reeves 400 with has six KT88s just like my TE V6. The Reeves is a Hiwatt DR405 clone and does not have a fan. The TE is biased at 30mA and the Reeves is biased at 35mA and they both have about the same plate voltage. The Reeves has much larger transformers than the TE, which could be a significant factor.
As far as AC30s. Vintage AC30s reportedly got so hot that the wax potting material would drip out of the transformers. I have a 62, and it get's very, very hot. Of course AC30s were biased up around 90% or possibly hotter, whereas the V-Types were factory biased around 60%.
Pretty sure the fan is soldered into the circuit on my three V-Types. So if you want to disable it, you will probably need to remove the chassis from the head case. I don't recommend it, but the amp may run for years without a fan....or maybe it won't. It's your amp.
Guess it might depend on the application. I’ve noticed my V4 get rather hot on hot days and under lots of stage lighting.

I played with this exact combination and it was killer. Markbass CL108's sound as good as they are LIGHT! Congrats

Yes! I've been looking for one of those to pair with my V6...question- is this the same as the MarkBass 'casa' cab? Is it sealed?
