The ultimate 112 cab

Don't forget about the Eden ex112
I got one in 4ohms and it's a very nice sounding cab. Dual cone speaker offers crisp treble response without the hiss from regular tweeters.
It's light (14Kg) and it's not expensive

Here’s a vote for the Aguilar DB112. Great used pickup if you can find two.
However, define “medium” gig and what type of band? A single 112 would get buried in any medium gig for me (100+ people, PA support but not necessarily full monitors for the band). Two would probably suffice.

The absolute clearest/loudest/punchiest 112 I have ever played. One is amazing, and two of them will crush ANY venue/gig...
About $800 U.S.
IMO, not recommended for players with less than perfect technique, but incredible nonetheless. No offense, but makes Aguilar and Barefaced sound like middle of the road.

As you can tell from the various responses you need to try to listen to some cabs and figure out what you like.
Anything using the 3012LF or similar Euro cousin(BMS,B&C,18 Sound,etc.)will be the ultimate if you have the power available (800+ @ 8 ohms).
I've been using the Bergie AE112 for years: light, punchy, loud, and it will cut it with a 6-piece band w/ FOH + onstage monitors playing R&B. Very mid-forward. Bergantino has moved on from these but come up here for about $500US.
I've played the Greenboy F112 in the same band and it's a whole 'nother beast. Full bottom, articulate, and full range. Likes lots of power, very expensive, but exceptional.
What I'm really curious about is these, anyone have experience with the Quilter 112? Can't find much on them. I have the BB800 and would love some feedback.

The term "Ultimate" yields itself to interpretation, particularly insofar as tone is concerned. What's pleasing to.my decrepit ears might be offensive to others, and so it goes.
With that being said, my several years on this forum have yielded the following observations:
I've categorized three different levels of cabinetry (with exceptions)
1. Top tier "boutique" cabs
Barefaced
AudioKineses
Greenboy designs
Mostly full-range, high power handling, light weight, superbly designed, engineered, and produced. Alex at Barefaced, for instance, makes 3 different single 12's: the Super Midget; Super Compact; and Big Baby II, with various capabilities and form factors.
2. Top-of-the-line mass production cabinetry
Bergantino
Epifani
Mesa
Aguilar
Again, great engineering and consistent quality. Excellent materials, sometimes even better than the smaller boutique guys. Great customer support (if one isn't a tool about things)
3. Regular production stuff
As noted, there are some products which fall somewhere in between, stuff like BagEnd comes to mind*, and others might consider them to fit into the first tier group. I've never taken the opportunity to play through one so I'm speaking somewhat through ignorance.
These are more general impressions rather than scientific analysis so take it for what it's worth.
I'd like to have one of Duke's cabs one day. I do have a 1-12 Berg which is VERY nice but being equipped with a ceramic magnet, it's a bit heavy.
I seem to.recall that someone did a boutique shoot-out a year or so ago. Might be worth checking out to at least provide general brand knowledge if nothing else. There's a Talkbass truism that I've seen a time or two: Cost, weight, sound...pick 2.
That's just my take on this fwiw.
Oh yeah, and Mark S. smh
*edit: Schroeder and Revsound might fall in to this slot, and as RColie points out, Genzler appears to be a top-tier large production outfit as well.

The MAS 18 (one 8 inch speaker) will compete and out perform many commercial 12s with a smaller footprint. For small to medium gigs, it can't be beat. If you need more power, add a second 18 or get the 28.
+1 and these come up used here occasionally. Powerful yet very light and easy to move around.
Thanks! I am incredibly proud with how well they turned out! It was my second attempt at a fEarful set, so I was able to learn from my previous mistakes this time around.
Still debating on if I should add a tweeter.
Glad to hear. I am looking for a big powerful low end.
While I loved my fearless cabs, but I am tired of always needing 1000watt cabs to power them. I want a nice 500watt solution.
