The Valenti Megathread Part IV

My Valenti has the big singles and Nordy pre. Absolutely killer IMO. Highly recommended!

That's good to hear! I need it to cover a lot of ground. I spend most of my free time playing and recording funky, slappy, poppy grooves, but I make my living playing modern and hard rock. It's definitely an EQ balancing act. Nino said the Nordstrand 3b pre and the Big Singles could cover it all...

What is the pickup spacing you have in this? 70s jazz but with big singles?

Screw Friday's.... It's a holiday in Canada (and the U.S.)!

Still loving my Valenti and I agree that Nino deserves more recognition. He does amazing work.

P.s. I used to own 3 Sadowskys (including a NYC) and prefer my Valenti. AC is a different story IME as Jimmy's basses are unlike any Valenti, Nordy or Sadowsky I have ever played. Basically 60's Fender tone with the option of a B string. Not my thing, but very cool, very expensive and about as un-modern as it gets! I really like Sadowsky, Nordy and Lulls, but again... Valenti basses are just great to me and the aforementioned have nothing on Valenti except brand recognition (again, IMO).

Heck yeah! That's what I'm talkin' 'bout! @Baird6869 and @peterpalmieri, you guys have some SWEET basses! I really dig the Whiteburst finish, and I've always been a big fan of the PJ5 setup!

Nino talked me into putting Big Singles in this build, so we'll see how that goes. I'm pretty excited about it. I am, however, spec'ing out what will probably be my number 3 Valenti(number 2 will probably be almost identical to number 1, other than color), and I'm planning on a PJ setup.

I'm really hoping that some other Valenti owners will drop in and post up pics...

My 5 has big singles and the Nordy 3 band pre as well, but my pickups are spaced in the "modern" spacings.

I can't really begin to tell you how much I absolutely LOVE your bass! It's just stunning...drool

I'm guessing he's putting the pups in my build in the "modern" positions? I just figured that was standard for the 24 fret basses. I guess I should ask, lol! If I may ask, what kind of music do you play or what are you into? Does this bass cover all the sounds you want it to with these pups/pre in that position?

Thanks man, it's a Ziricote top on northern ash with a wenge neck and fretboard. I think Nino just puts the modern spacing on his modern basses, it's based on the Sadowsky modern spacing and it's awesome. I play a lot of solo stuff with it and I play in a sorta hybrid funk/Motown band with it too. It's not doing me any favors on the James Jamerson tone, but that's not really my thing anyway. I also have a Full size Valenti j 4 string with a 70s setup that I use for that Marcus Miller type stuff. I can pretty much dial anything in with it and it definitely gets a nice Bridge pickup j bass tone when panned to the bridge.

One more thing I wanted to say is that I am a huge baby when it comes to my string height off the fretboard. Basically I like my action so low it makes other people angry. Nino's basses are very capable of this action, more capable than many other extremely expensive custom basses that I've owned. This 5 string and my green 4 string have the lowest action of any basses I have ever played. The green one had a pro setup and the guy called it a unicorn because he got the action so low. The 5 string basically didn't need any alterations since I got it from Nino. I put some lower tension strings on and dropped the action even farther and it is just awesome.

I almost wish you hadn't told me that...now I'm even MORE excited about my upcoming Valenti! Even as primarily a rock player, I still like my action almost ridiculously low. I've been able to get it pretty low on my Spector and my Pedulla, but I'm always trying to get it a little lower. Sounds like this may be exactly what I'm going for. As we get closer to completion, I'll ask Nino to drop the action to sub-basement level...;):D:bassist:

Just getting this off of PAGE 24...:wideyed:

We've had Baird6869, peterpalmieri, and lowendmafia post pics of their KILLA' Valenti's! Anyone else? I'd LOVE to see more pics! Gonna be a minute before I get mine, but I will have a surprise for you guys...;)!!!
Yup. Nino does great work. I cant see anyone being less than ecstatic with a new Valenti.

I had to put my "blackburst" PJ5 on hold as my Canadian dollar has tanked over the last year or so, but my next bass will be that Valenti PJ5!

I'll certainly be posting pics of my 24-fret jazz when it gets done. I'm sitting right at the six month mark now, so it's getting closer and closer.

Sweet! I'm excited for you and jealous at the same time, lol! I'm not quite a month in yet, so...I will live and gig vicariously through you fine gentlemen and your pics! Although I gig all the time, I'd like to see some action shots from you guys. Don't care if you're playing out or playing in your bedroom. Any shots of anyone playing their Valenti would be cool!
