The Valenti Megathread

Andy, you TOTALLY rock... thanks for doing this.

Seems like (to me) I'd summarize it to be that the Fender actually has cooler slap tone, but the Valenti has a bunch more "presence".

To be honest, I was impressed by how well the Fender did up against what I'd automatically take as a better bass. I used to have a USA P Deluxe 5 I really loved, but sold it to pay for my Roscoe. I may have to get into one again someday... :)

Thanks Vic,

It was an interesting shootout, and I'm still l'm still listening to the comparisons myself.

It's funny, my impressions are a little different than yours. I hear the Fender as having a simpler voice, with very strong midrange character and presence. I hear the Valenti as more modern, complex, and "prettier" sounding (for lack of a better word).

Man, I Hope Valenti Still Makes Basses After Say, 10 Years??
Hopefully By Then, I'll Have The Cash...

Then I Can Ask Him To Make Me A Custom Bass With A P Bass Pickup AND A MusicMan Humbucker On Board...:hyper:

MayB Sooner If I Know The Average Price...

How Much Did You Guys Pay For Urs???

(Man, I Sure Hope He Does Shipping Internationally)

NICE!

Ouh K...Im Gonna Ask ULTRA NOOBISH Qns...

Whats The Difference Between A Single Coil Pu, A Double Coil Pu and a TRIPLE Coil PU??
(I Read Somewhere That Double Coil Is Great As a Bridge On Valentis)

(Besides, Nordstrand Offers Musicman Pus... Double Coil For The Stingray Pu and A Triple Coil For The Sterling Pu... I'm Trying To Figure Out The Difference)

Whats The Difference Between an OPB 1, OPB 2 and OPB 3??

And Will It Work If It's a Single Coil P-Bass Pu as a Neck Pu and a Double Coil/Triple Coil Humbucker as The Bridge Pu???

:hyper:

sent it already, but just sent it again.

GAS is definately gonna get the better of me for a while. I'm gettin a DB750, another GS112, and ordering TWO valentis before the year is out!

I have a pseudo-Valenti. The parts aren't what Nino would usually use(MIM Fender body, Allparts neck, Bartolini electronics), but he put it together, and it's my favorite bass to date. I've tried to rotate my basses around since I have a lot, but this "Geddy" has been the main one. I had a pic on my file server, but changed servers so I'll upload one when my computer is alive again.
If you're on MySpace, you can see it in my pics at Link Removed
I've done most of my second album's recordings with it(except two tracks that have my Gibson Grabber just to see how it recorded, and I liked the result.)
If I don't continue building basses from now on(I built the 5 string that is my current default pic with koa top), I'd definitely get an actual Valenti.

If you want some good tone, get Nino to install Bartolini MM4CBC(or the 5 string equiv), and 9CBJD for the neck. series/single/parallel for the MM pup, and Bart NTBT pre. mmmmmmmmmm. I later replaced the stock Fender bridge with a Gotoh 201.

Soon ordering a Fretless 4.

that is SO sexy. the black neck pup cover actually puts it on a whole nuther level man.

sweet.

seeing valenti's basses basically makes me rethink what th hell i really want. like, first i thought i wanted a dingwall, then a stock fender, and now... well, naturally, i want a valenti!!!

Put me in group 4.

There are so many basses I want to have. I'm planning to buy a Geddy Lee sig Jazz just for the neck, put that neck on my fretless' body, put the fretless neck on a sunburst body Black hardware on the white bass, chrome hardware on the sunburst. Then I want a Lakland 55-02d.

THEN I want a Valenti 5er. I am picturing something like the Geddy Vee, maybe with wider bridge spacing.

I'm probably at the 3-3.5 stage. I've looked at all of the work Nino's done, and am just flabbergasted by the outcome of each bass. I love "standard-styled" basses, and have been GASing for a good P or P/J for a while now.

I just might have to bite. I want to; but like many, I need the funds before I can do anything. I've got everything written out, it's just a matter of that next step.

Welp, i'm settled on it and i'm ordering another Valenti. It's gonna be a 70s style J w/ the new Audere pre-amp in it. here are the specs if you're interested:

Full sized 5-string J Bass body
Tuned: BEADG
Black w/ NON-matching headstock
Ash Body
Maple Fretboard w/ black dots
Matte black PG
NJ5F Single Coil Pick-ups
70s pick-up spacing
Audere JZ3 Pre-amp
Chrome Bell cover
Chrome BADASS V bridge
Contoured heel
Chrome tuners
Low action set-up
Dr lo-rider steel strings

it's gonna be the fretted brother to my "Stealth V" Fretless and will be replacing my Roscoe SKB3006 as my workhorse (fretted) axe. It's also a little gift to me for snagging a solid job within weeks of graduating. :ninja: :D

With the way this is going...i might skip the Japanese Fender P and get ANOTHER valenti after this one :ninja:Do i have a problem? You be the judge :p :D
