The weather this "winter"

We are having the most unusual winter anyone around here can remember... I live in a city that regularly sees temperatures in the -30s (celsius), often hitting -40 a couple of nights or so. We did not even reach -30 at all this winter ... missed it by one decimal point. Nothing below that. Not only that, there was almost no cold weather or snow until after New Year's Eve - we see snow on Halloween about every other year, so that is very unusual.

Now, we are hitting some extremely high temperatures. March is often quite variable, but we broke quite a few records the past couple days - we broke the former high of 7 (44F) getting up to 14 (57F) today. Tomorrow we are supposed to see 20 (68F), smashing the old record of 12 (54F) ... and on Monday they are forecasting a high of 24 (78F). The normal high for this time of year is just -3 (24F) but all of the snow that we did have (and there wasn't much) has completely melted already.

I'm definitely enjoying the nice weather :cool: and so are my kids ... but it is kind of disorienting :atoz: ... as I say, this has been by far the most unusually mild winter anyone I know can remember around here.

It's been crazy warm and the one real snow we got (outside of the freak one that happened before Halloween) melted in two days. Apparently it's one of the warmest winters on record in New England.

I hate it. Hate warm weather, hate humidity, hate rain.

We got the same thing down here....except since I'm infinitely far more south than you, this winter some days the temperature got into the 80s on some days. It's winter for crying out loud! As somebody who likes to get through a genuine winter, this was thoroughly disappointing for me.


It also means this summer it's going to get brutal..... :(

It basically feels like summer in the St. Louis. Our temperature has been 80 or better (27 C +) since Monday, and the streak is to continue until next Thursday at least. Bugs are out like June because it never really got cold enough to kill them this winter.

I'm down here in central Georgia. The lowest it got was 33 degrees one day. The average winter temperature for us seemed to be around 65 degrees. Today it was 85. I'm hating it because I know it will only get hotter from here! :(

It's been in the 70s for a few days here in Chicago, and I'm absolutely loving it. Great timing, since it's my girlfriend's first winter here.

Though I do miss the usual wiintertime posts in OT on the level of "There's snow in my yard, global warming my a**, herp derp.";)

Heard an NPR piece this morning talking about the bugs that didn't die off and are more active this 'winter'.

In Los Angeles, it has been bitterly cold at night, down to 5 to 7 C regularly, and windy. We haven't had any rain to speak of. Read something yesterday about San Francisco only having 3 days of rain since the New Year (a record), and our snow pack in the Sierra Nevadas, about 270 miles away is only 30% of average.

There are days when the sun breaks through and we climb up into the mid 20's C. It's going to be a hot and dry summer.

I live in south eastern Michigan. Lot's of lakes in my area, none of them froze over this years and if they did the ice was very, very thin. We had a few snow falls here and there, but not once did I have to shovel my driveway. Lots of rain, though.

Today was in the upper 60's and of what I gather it's suppose to be around 70 this coming weekend.

Hey...it ain't over yet. I remember getting about 3 inches of snow on April Fools Day in 1994!

As someone who hates winter and snow, especially in the North East, I'm enjoying it. I wore a tshirt outside today and a zip-up sweat shirt this evening (and I'm not one of those poor fools who starts wearing shorts once the temperature hits 40F).

But part of me is like, maybe ol' Al Gore was right. :D :hiding:
