The weather this "winter"

The Weather channel showed these maps and explained how particles in the atmosphere from volcanoes affect ocean temperatures for a few years. The illustration showed how it forced arctic air down into Russia instead of it's normal distribution.
Anyway, it doesn't really matter. It is sad though that our nice winter is subsequently killing people in the UK and Northern Europe.
Heck, I saw a young guy on the middle of this winter wearing shorts about to get off the bus. It was 30 and snowing, and it had been that way all day. What the hell is he trying to prove?
Gaah, cherries have already gotten so expensive in recent years. I love them.

If only more people would read his actual comment in context, they would see that he was clumsily stating that he had a big role in the legislation that cleared the way for the Internet--which he did.
Thank you for pointing this out, not to give this a political turn, but he never said he "invented the internet" his opponents simply put words in his mouth and said the he'd claimed that he did. What he did do is play a major role in the legislation that allowed for the funding of it, as you said.

That happens all the time here, but to be fair it's often so much colder than that, it really does feel like shorts and sandals weather once it gets warm (which 30F would be, if it was January or February). I break out my sandals when we get into the plus side of the celsius scale (above 32F).
I live in the mountain snowbelt of west central Pennsylvania and we are well known for extremely harsh winter weather. We can see snow from mid-October to mid-May. Several big ski resorts are in our region. It is not unusual for us to have frequent snow storms with lots of accumulation. If we get 12 inches of snow, we consider that a dusting. Anyway, this winter has been the mildest we have ever had. The worst storm we had was Halloween weekend and I only had to shovel snow twice since then. Sometimes, I can shovel snow 3 or 4 times in one day. Also, the temperatures have been very high compared to normal. Even today it is about 70 degrees F and we would normally have maybe in the 30 - 40 degree F range this time of year.
Likewise here - I only shovelled snow 4 or 5 times all winter. We don't get a ton of snow, but if there's any snow in October (and there often is) it's usually on the ground to stay until April. This year, the snow season was just January to mid-March!
I don't know what it is but in Sacramento there is no end of people wearing shorts and hoodies in driving rain.
It's been weird weather here but generally mild all year. It's cold enough in the a.m. commute to warrant a coat but halfway to work it's warm enough to be uncomfortable wearing it. I just wear an extra long sleeve shirt and take it off when I'm at work.

Absolutely nothing mild here in the PacNW. One of our mountain ski areas got 10 feet of snow in six days. Generally severe avalanche conditions throughout our mountains. We've been getting small snow showers down in the lowlands with loads of cold rain and high winds.
No end to it in sight.
It seems to be stuck in a similar stormy pattern to last year and may lead to similar tornado conditions in the midwest as our Pacific storms meet the warmer air from the Gulf of Mexico.

Yeah - we spent 2 hours in the basement yesterday evening...
...and I'm not sure I'd describe damaging 100 houses and destroying 12 (out of over 1,000 households in the city of Dexter) as "leveling" the city.
The most miserable weather I've experienced was my first winter in Cape Girardeau. Hilly, cold, icey, and muggy all rolled into one. I'll take this warm winter over that bullcrap any day of the week.

This past winter here in Central Massachusetts we've only had two snowstorms, the one at the end of October (which doesn't really qualify as a winter snowstorm), and the one we had two weeks ago. Otherwise it's been mostly sunny and warm this winter. I'm loving it, especially considering the winter we had last year! I do have a feeling that we'll pay for it this summer! 
"Global Warming" isn't what happens over one winter, it's the trends that occur over a long stretch of time. If you know anything about statistics, you know that a single sample is meaningless.
