The weather this "winter"

Thank you for pointing this out, not to give this a political turn, but he never said he "invented the internet" his opponents simply put words in his mouth and said the he'd claimed that he did. What he did do is play a major role in the legislation that allowed for the funding of it, as you said.

No, he said, and I quote, " I took the initiative in creating the internet".

No matter how you spin it, it is still a politician trying to claim sole credit for something that not only was he NOT the only one involved in, but HIS PARTY wasn't even the only ones involved in it. Plus he and his wife are pro censorship, that alone makes him an ass as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah - we spent 2 hours in the basement yesterday evening...

...and I'm not sure I'd describe damaging 100 houses and destroying 12 (out of over 1,000 households in the city of Dexter) as "leveling" the city.

Yeah, perhaps not.:D

Is the Dexter-Saline-Dundee area becoming the new Tornado Ally? Lots of activity over there the last few years. It always seems like the storms that track from the southwest, even the snow storms that center south of the city do the most damage. Of course it doesn't help that it's the flattest area of the state. It really is amazing no one got hurt, of course coming the time of the 5:00 local news didn't hurt.

yes it has been a strangely warm winter in iowa as well. i love winter. i love snow. i love shoveling snow. this year i shoveled once. after that i just gave up cause i knew tiny bit of snow we got would just melt on its own.

i have spent this week turning up my garden beds and planting early food (peas, spinach, lettuce). honestly, its really too hot already for them. today is humid like summer!

lack of precipitation does have me truly worried. and after this week, if we get even a mild cold snap all the fruit trees will lose their buds. then we will have no stone fruit. and that would suck.

Guys, please ... there's no need to get personal. I was really just looking for people's experiences with the recent weather in their location, not a fistfight.

then why on earth did you post in TBOT?! :D

(sorry if i forgot to split a hair or take offense at a random post)

Taken directly from the video you posted...

"During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth, environmental protection, educational system..."

If you look at it in context it is obvious that he is talking about LEGISLATION, not literally writing software and developing the internet on a technical or physical level.

He said "I took the initiative". He NEVER said "I was the only one" or "Democrats were the only ones"

So you see, no matter how YOU spin it, your view of it just doesn't pan out. He never tried to claim "sole credit" or claim that he invented anything, he never even used the word invented.

I might be at fault for the weather. I'm sick of being cold and have no kids to pass this world onto. So every morning I empty the coolant out of my hvac system, spray hairspray in the air,i burn my plastic and drive a hummer. Now my question to you is what have you been doing to do your part?

Yeah, the timing had to help a lot. There weren't even any serious injuries which is amazing.

The Omaha region has been through a very mild winter this season. We only had a few snows that made the snow removal guys happy, other than that most precip was rain when it did come. We've already hit temps in around the 80 degree mark give or take this past week, and for St. Patricks we are expecting around the 80 mark today!

Our city has two rivers that flow through it. One of them is the Red River - the same river that has caused extensive flooding in Fargo, North Dakota in recent years. There is almost no ice on the Red where I drove by it, but it's usually frozen until well into April.

This is actually very worrying for some parts of my province. There are quite a few communities in northern Manitoba that have no road or rail access - everything comes in by plane in the summer, and by trucks on ice roads over the lakes during the winter. Every year, the lakes are freezing up later and later, so the season for using the ice roads is getting shorter and shorter. The season started very late this winter, and now it will probably end very early too - which puts those communities in a very tough position.

I feel sorry for the Polar Bears but I'm really enjoying the weather. Been in the 70's all week and the trees are flowering already. We're a good month or more early for all of that. Didn't even feel like we had a winter at all, just a Fall and then Spring. Which is awesome.

Vint Cerf thought otherwise.

Vint Cerf responded to MSNBC's questions about the Net's origins with this e-mail:

While it is not accurate to say that VP Gore invented Internet, he has played a powerful role in policy terms that has supported its continued growth and application, for which we should be thankful.

We're fortunate to have senior level members of Congress and the Administration who embrace new technology and have the vision to see how it can be put to work for national and global benefit.
