The what beer are you drinking (and or rating) thread.

Just opened my first Dogfish Head Red & White. I'm liking it so far. It's a very murky amber color with some strong orange peel notes and a bit of zing to it with the higher alcohol (10% abv) and the pinot juice that it was fermented in. It came in a 750 ml, so there's a couple glasses to be had here. I'd recommend it to a friend if asked.

Earlier I critiqued the Magic Hat "Howl" seasonal and since I'm working on the last one now I wanted to address my earlier observations about it. I was a bit too critical of it last time, I think. I really like this beer; it has a bit more complexity than I had observed and is very flavorful, and it seems to me that the most interesting flavors come at the finish.

Now tomorrow, I'm cracking the Weihenstephaner dark wheat I mentioned earlier. Ahhh, good times...........:bassist:

I was rambling with the guy taking my pizza+beer order and he also recommended this:

so I told him to add a couple. About to open the first one, will report.

edit:

A winner. Relative to my "reference IPA" (Racer 5) it's a little more sour at the front, but quickly sweetens up and gets a bit more interesting. Still very hoppy all the way through. Good with greasy pizza.

Picked up a 6 of Magic Hat's Encore last night. I was intrigued by the idea of a wheat IPA. I'm a Simcoe hop fan so I really enjoyed it but missed the barley malt. The wheat is just a little too light when stacked up against an IPA helping of hops. That said, I'd buy it again. I'm a sucker for Simcoe.

Friday I had the Weihinstephaner dark wheat. Now that, IMO is a world class beer and as good as I remember it being. Sunday I tried a Blue Moon Winter Ale and a Sweetwater 420 at a party. I kinda liked the Blue Moon but I'm having trouble figuring out why, according to the BA ratings I'm supposed to like the 420 better than the Blue Moon. The Blue Moon Winter Ale was okay, I thought (had 2), but I just couldn't get into that 420. As someone said, guess I'm a lager guy........:hmm:

Time to hit the beverage outlet again........
