Terrible performance. "Tommy" is the jewel of my record collection, but when John and Keith died, The Who was never the same.

Pino has no soul in his playing like John. Roger's voice is going. Pete is still good, but he didn't seem on top of his game tonight.

The Who need to realize their prime has passed, and best go the way of Led Zeppelin.

You're on to something I reckon. Could be Pino trying for more of an Ox fenderbird pickup look. Sounded like he was playing flats to me though, very non JE.

That these guys can still generate dollars is great for them, but...only two members? It's not The Who; It's Pete Townsend and Roger Daltry formerly of The Who doing a Vegas medly, and doing it only passably well. Take away the light show and what did you think of it?

I thought the bass player did a good job, but they gave him no spotlight musically or otherwise, maybe if his dad had been a Beatle. I do agree he was much better than Zak Starky; (who plays better than Ringo but that's not saying much.) Zak sucked and he got all kinds of spotlight. If I hadn't known from this forum to watch for Pino, I would have missed his performance. He deserved better treatment.

Daltry tried to belt it out, at a much lower register
(understandable because of age), but the audience hit the notes better than he did. His arm waiving instead of mic swinging was just sad. He probably has bursitis like I do so I don't fault he can't do it, but why pretend?

Same with Townsend's roundhouse strum. Aside from clothing getting in the way (no dress rehersal?), some of his strums didn't hit strings! I know it's now only show for the fans, but still....

I have all their albums and have been a fan almost since their beginning, so has my wife; maybe that's why we both didn't like this show very much.

I hope somethig good comes of this for Pino though.

thank you so much! so vintage spec-ish t-bird pickups are most likely the best bet for what he had in his bass. Thanks alot! i was kind of wondering if thats what they were. now that you posted this it makes so much more sense to me.

Yes, but you don't see them attempting new albums or still touring. I'm okay with a show here and there, but they need to let it go.

They aren't Metallica, still relatively young and able to move new fanbases. Even us kids who like the old stuff are outnumbered. You can say "lots of kids like it," but out of the millions, it's a fraction.

You obviously mistake my use of personal pronouns...
I did not mean I'm the definitive authority on music nor did I imply I should decide who tours, and when, etc.

I used it to point out it was MY opinion, I'm not saying you will agree or that anyone should listen.

By the way, is probably them most vicious smiley here, it is a double edged sword...

i thought they did a great job. zak starkey is a great drummer, and i thought roger sang amazing for a guy his age.

no tyler, he was using custom dw's. the cymbals are what got me. i loved those bullseye cymbals. i think that's about to start a trend.

I was pretty dissapointed by the show as a whole. I think the soundcrew really dropped the ball. Roger, I thought, was doing fine. But Pete's backup vocals were too loud and his guitar sound was way off too.

I hate seeing awesome groups of musicians and not being able to hear the awesome-ness

I'm not saying that they don't rock considering their age. I am almost there with them. I'm am saying that for the Superbowl with a super sized audience that I expect more. Their vocals were not up to the rest of the performance and as you age the voice goes. There are many examples in the entertainment world of singers that have lost their range and tonal qualities. For most vocalist, mid-20's to early 30's is prime. I hope that they had fun because at that age, fun is what it is all about.

Who do you want? Black Eyed Peas? Jay-Z? Lady Gaga? I mean, I love The Who and was glad they played it but honestly who gives two craps about who plays the Super Bowl. I've got that tv on to watch football.

The Who already retired once years ago with there farewell tour. I think they should have now out of respect for John when he passed on. I like Pino, but he isn't John. Mr. Entwistle was a big part of the who's sound and contributed many songs of his own. I guess you could say that about losing Kieth too, but I am not aware of him writing any songs plus I never thought too much about his bombastic style of drumming. I have a lot of respect for Jimmy Page because after Bonham died, he said Zeppelin will never sound the same because of Bonham's feel on the drums and how it was an integral part of Led Zeppelins sound and there would be no point to continue. I think the same thing should apply here.

I thought a lot of it was pre-recorded including Rogers vocals, that's usually what they do for the halftime shows.
The last Super-bowl I remember being live was Prince.

I love Pino Palladino!!! Regardless of what everybody says about the Superbowl performance, he is such an inspiration!!!
