The Who? Superbowl

If Entwistle was still alive, I would say keep on rock'n. Now that he's gone, I would suggest let The Who rest in peace as well. There music will withstand the test of time as it does now.
Great job for being in their mid-60's but no where near good enough for a Super Bowl half-time show. Definitely could tell they had an off-stage singer for the scream in "Won't get fooled again" as it was dead on while the rest of the song was flat and strained. Wasn't entirely impressed with Townshend's gut hanging out the whole time either. LOL
With the Super Bowl being in Dallas, TX next year, I seriously think ZZ Top would be a SWEET choice for half-time entertainment! They still got it at least!

I LOVED it! They totally rocked, put on a great show, and as far as I'm concerned it was a great show. Those guys can still bring it - and Daltry and Townsend are hanging in there. Daltry can't hit some of the notes he did years ago, but neither can Steve Stills..and he's still doing fine.
MUCH better than watching some barely post-pubescent boy band try not to sing all in falsetto.
Best opinion I've heard is that Palladino's P-Bass was fitted with a pair of Gibson 2-screw Thunderbird pickups.

Sounded like bass with no balls.
It's quite possible Pino DID sound good(i.e. growly, roundwounds on edge) on stage but the sound guy may have had no clue?

Pete's brother Simon, onstage, helps Daltrey with some of the higher vocal parts and plays rhythm guitar.
I mean, Roger Waters was selling out arenas for his Dark Side of the Moon Tour in 2007-09 and was barely singing at all - had a backing track for every single song. Nobody complained about that.
+1 on ZZ Top, though.
that isn't necessarily pino's fault. there is a soundman mixing them, not pino.

I know all of that. Wasn't talking about him, or the other sub-sixty year olds on either stage.
Roger and Peet's backing band rocked too (although I couldn't hear Pino, but I blame the mix for that), but vocally they couldn't cut it, and I wasn't wowed by Pete's playing either.
If I need to, I can name a few more of their peers who can still cut it:
Clapton (I'm not a fan, but he can still play).
Beck
Keith, Woody and Charlie (Mick simply stopped singing live a long time ago, wonder what would happen if he tried).
John Fogerty
Neil Young
How long has that been going on? You mean when I saw them in 1994, Mick didn't actually sing, just danced around and lip-synced?
Because JPJ has never been the singer that Daltrey is/was or the writer than Townshend is/was.
He's an old guy in a rock band, which, for the sake of this pointless argument, is really the only qualifier, IMO.
That's ridiculous. It totally depends on what you're singing/playing and who's doing the singing/playing to know what's harder or easier.

To me he seems to just shout, rather than sing, live.

sorry, but you're just wrong there. i do both, and singing is way way way way WAY harder. the voice is a part of your body and it takes a lot of control and concentration to sing with a pleasing tone and be in tune, even if the parts you're singing are easy, which roger's parts definitely aren't. and if you're tired or not feeling well, it gets exponentially harder.
can playing instruments be hard? sure. but it's nothing compared to singing.
