Can anyone confirm if Pino was rocking the Ashdown 400w tube head? it looked like it to me, and what i heard sounded great!

no, that was live. when you record, you don't usually leave mistakes in.
anyway, if you complainers had a band name as valuable as the who, see if you would give it up if someone died. back when i was 18 and all rah rah about band togetherness and all that crap, i might have said it was cheesy. but then i found out how incredibly hard it is to make money playing music. roger and pete have both done solo stuff, but they can't make near as much money as when they perform as the who. and i'm sorry keith and john are dead, but life is for the living. and when the last man standing takes that name and performs as the who, i'll be right behind him.
i saw the ashdown cab behind roger, but directly behind him it looked like an svt, so maybe that was the new ashdown.
i'm fairly convinced it was a lull or a fender with lull t-bird pickups.
Definitely, I couldn't keep from just watching the cymbals...
At one point they looked transparent because of the light.
I loved it, in every way. I think Zak Starkey sounded amazing (his fill coming back in during Won't Get Fooled Again was incredible, sounded incredible too). I don't know, I loved it, so I'm glad they're still playing. We watched it at a friend's house who has a great sound system, and I thought mix was great. Bass maybe was a little low for the Who, but Pino has a very different sound than John Entwhistle anyway. Can't please everyone I guess, but they did please me.
And yes, I was also wondering what pickups were in his bass.

wow, i hope someone puts you all out to pasture when you're in your 60's. trust me, it's coming. it's funny...all this talk about how they need to retire. i'd be willing to bet you all don't sound that good now, let alone how you'll sound in 40 years.

Folks, Pete's been wearing long suit jackets and doing the tuck-behind-the-guitar strum for over twenty years. It's just a thing he does now.
Watch the Royal Albert Hall DVD from ten years ago. Suit jacket gets in the way of his playing, and once every so often he tucks it behind the guitar. Definitely not a "wardrobe" malfuction and definitely not somethign new.

I loved Starkey's Who emblem cymbals with the target logos. Very cool. Been a symbol for The Who since the early days.
I'll be seeing Daltrey open for Clapton in Memphis in less than a month. Should be good.

The whole production was so elaborate, lasers and everything but it could not cover up the fact that the band was really weak.It's cool to keep playing into your 70s and beyond as long as you are at least trying to keep growing and attempt to bring something new to the table.But that stuff was so tired, there was nothing new or fresh there.My Generation, would that be the AARP crowd? The show just made me feel bad for them. And I don't think Pino is doing himself any favors by playing in that band.I used to love the Who, but that was painful for me to watch.
I will always love the Who and I think Townsend is a genius, but it was a little sad at first to see them stumble at the beginning of this performance. Seemed like once they warmed up they settled in nicely and had some great moments.
I thought Pete wailed on guitar, kind of reckless in a way which I think is really cool for someone who has been around as long as him. I think he plays way better now than he did in the 60's or 70's.
I'm pretty sure this was a live performance, but I wouldn't be suprised if they used some pre-recorded backing tracks. Sadly, it's all too common these days among big name acts, even some with great players I really respect.

It was pretty good instrumentally (I thought Pino's playing was tasteful as usual), but the vocals were lousy. I think most people evaluate music based on how it sounds. There's no grading curve adjusting for age. You either sound good or you don't.
I'm all for cutting old guys some slack, I'm gonna be there soon enough (and, in a 20 something's eyes, I already am), but sorry, I was greatly dissapointed.
I talk to my kids (7&10) about music all the time, and while I cover a lot of ground, I do lean towards old stuff due to my age, it's what I grew up with. So they know the Who's music, and knew the songs. However, I could tell they were underimpressed too. And it's not because it's old guy music, they have seen lots of other performances from acts of that general era and enjoyed them. It was just weak. (Side note: My son was digging the drummer, can't wait to tell him it was Ringo's son.)
At one point, my 10 year old said "It seems to be all about the light show". I tried to defend them by explaining the fact that the stadium crowd can't see the band that well, so flashy lights help make up the difference.
But you know what.....it was just weak, I'm sorry to say.
And....the mix sucked balls, at least on my modest stereo.
Can't help but to contrast it with JPJ and Them Crooked Vultures just the night before on SNL.

Amen. I have been unrelentingly ripped apart for expressing that in the past. I love them Live at Leeds and earlier, excluding the Tommy stuff.
josh homme is also 40 and doesn't sing nearly as high as roger, and it's a hell of a lot easier to sing when you're 40.
btw, got news for ya...as someone who has heard a ton of who bootlegs, they weren't that much worse than back then. there are many shows they did in their prime where tonight's show blew them away.
