The worst cover songs ever released.

I once was subjected to Celion Dion doing a live cover of You shook me all night long. You can find it on youtube. Talk about cutting the balls off AC/DC. Plus it's gross as hell because you're forced to imagine someone shaking Celine all night long and it makes you want to puke (unless she being shaken to her death by the throat).

In songs i particularly like badly covered, well, first of all, any damn time someone takes a uptempo rock song and does it slow on acoustic guitar, i want to smash that guitar on the head of whoever's doing it. Recently i heard Grant Lee Phillips do a cover of The Cure's Boys don't cry like this, it made me want to die.

Also recently came across The Bravery doing U2's An Cat Dubh, that was pretty horrible too.

As a general rule, covers suck. And it's like..i understand you have to make the song yours and change it because otherwise what's the point, but usually the change is too drastic. Or the person doing the cover doesn't understand why this song was good to begin with and the mood of the song is changed in a bad way or parts that actually greatly contributed in making the song great are removed or altered too much.

The only song right now i can think of that i like both the original and cover of is Prince's When you were mine. Cyndi Lauper did that song on She's So Unusual and she made it hers (her version is not even played in the same key) i honestly can't decide which one i like best. They're both different, both have a different feel and both are valid.

I actually like Metallica's cover of Whiskey in the Jar, considering I'm a Thin Lizzy fan and do not like what Metallica has become.

It was already mentioned but I'll throw in another vote for Axl butchering Knocking on Heaven's Door. Mind you, I really don't like Axl's singing. His writing with GNR was great in the beginning, but he's never been a good singer.
