They fired me.

Ill be honest, Ive only read a couple of your posts about this situation over the months Ive been on here so I dont know the whole story but, from what I can tell, you put up with much more than I would have!

I totally agree. You have hung in there when many of us felt you were beating a dead horse. I honestly thought you were going to bail on the situation and leave last month when you got that other offer. I cannot remember the details but you had to make a decision because playing in both bands was an impossibility. Is that position still a possibility? Anyway, Cherie, I am sure, without any doubt, that you are going to land on your feet. And being a firm believer in what goes 'round, comes 'round, it's a good thing you are free of those yeahoos!

They will probably fall apart without you. The fan base you built up will all be asking them where you are.

Ayup. There are going to be a lot of appalled fans in our neck of the woods, come tomorrow night. I'd called *everyone* I know in the area to come to the show, and I have a LOT of friends in that town, not to mention my husband's customers who support both our bands faithfully.

People out south, and in places we don't often play, won't care. But the fans in our regular haunts, and in places where I know a lot of people, are going to be bummed.

They took that shotgun and just clean blew all their toes off, and they don't even see the blood yet.

Cherie

Cherie, from the information in your past posts and joyous personality that come out those posts, I can only think that this is but a small bump on the road of your bass playing career. Anyone with half the heart and dedication as you could certainly get a decent gig with someone else more appreciative and honest.

Keep on keepin' on!

Funny you should ask about that other project...

I just got an e-mail from the guy. Seems he needs a bassist for a local festival gig tomorrow night. He'd asked me last night, but I told him I couldn't, because I had a gig the same night.

But now, I don't have that gig! ;)

Another guy already agreed to take the festival gig, but he hasn't confirmed yet. If he doesn't, that guitarist *needs* me.

Isn't it nice, to be needed? ;)

Cherie :bassist:

I'm sorry to hear it. W/o knowing you all that well, you come across(here at least)as a solid, supportive band member, who has put up w/a lot of BS. To be stabbed in the back like that is just beyond wrong.
Something better will come along(actually, again- from my impression- you will find something better).
Hang in there, Cherie.

Thank you!!! That's very kind of you.

I'll just keep on learning and playing, and going to the local jam, and taking every pickup gig I can get. Surely something will come up!

They feel that I need a *lot* of improvement as a bassist. That I don't put in enough fills, and I don't know how to play chords like their old bassist did, and yada yada.

Cherie :scowl:

Hi Cherie

Please send them my way. I can fill up the space with fills, tricks and chords more than they can take; plus I sing lead too:D:D:D (not much space left for a band I suppose :smug::smug::smug:)

I am sure they will ask you back you the next minute. :bassist::bassist::bassist:

Kidding aside, you are better off without them. If people don't respect their bandmates and their contributions to the band then they deserve to be deserted. And the sad thing is that they fired you. I've been in such a position 2yrs ago but then all doors were wide open cause people saw how many things I was bringing in the band. I am sure you were bringing in the band much more so you will be much more in demand. Think of the time and effort as a lost investment that allowed you to show your contribution to the audience and other musicians (but not your bandmates)

Yep. We're a bar band. The singer has a career. The drummer has his own business. Its not like we go a-touring every day. They want to do a ten-day tour of the NE, since they vacation up there every year. I let them know I could not be gone from home for ten days just as school begins, as I have an elementary-age girl. That's another one of their excuses...they had to train a sub for that and for 7/4, so they decided to just keep him.

Yeah. Behind my back.

They say they love me, I'm their friend, its nothing personal. Uh-huh. If that were the case, they would not have lied. Friends don't lie and screw you over. A friend would be upfront, voice his or her concerns, and do this kind of thing with some respect.

I think I'll take some time to work up material that I really, really like, then bring that to the local jam in order to attract other musicians with like tastes.

Cherie

I feel your pain. My daughter is just about to turn 6 and I have missed out on more than a few band rehersals because of school and family functions.

And even though I am at a different stage in my life than the other guys in the band, they understand and try to be as accomodating as possible.

What your ex-band did was disrespectful and bush league. I like your idea about attracting like minded musicians though. Sounds like a solid plan to me.

Yeah, its nice to be needed. Let me tell you something you probably do not even suspect. You have made many friends on here. I know I can't be the only who always smiles when he sees you on here. You are good people and we will always have your back.

Cherie,

Keep up the good work with your bass playing, it will take you far. You have always had positive advice to those on talkbass, thank you! Hope this does not bring you down.

P.S. When one door closes, another opens. Good Luck and Godspeed!

If you can swing it, I'd go out to the festival gig anyway even if he has another bassist, just to show interest in any future gigs.

Besides, the sub player may have a few ideas you can steal. :D

Hey, they'd love you!!! LOL!

You know...its blues. Its not like there are a lot of super-fancy bass things that need done with the blues. I could probably be better on the Skynyrd, but those are some bada$$ bass lines, and there's not many who can totally fill that pair of shoes! As for the Tommy Shannon material, man, I'm great on it. I very much admire his playing style, and have worked hard so that, when I play his stuff, I reflect some measure of that tone and feel.

You're right...I lost that investment of time, but in the process, built a good reputation. Gonna have to make sure I keep it nice and shiny...the best coin to trade on is a good reputation, right?

Cherie :)

Oh shoot, now I've got wet stuff leaking from my eyes. :)

Bless you, my friend.

Yeah. Ok. I don't see them taking regular lessons, and they have plenty of room for improvement, too.

Honestly, I think they just used that one as an excuse to get rid of me. The new bassist is male. The Queen Bee won't be threatened by another female who can play and sing being on the same stage as her, anymore.

Cherie :scowl:

At face value, neither one of these things are crucial to being a solid bass player. As a matter of fact they can be detrimental if used incorrectly. You may be on to something with the Queen Bee theory.

As for the sub thing- Happens now and again and shouldn't lose the gig for you. And everyone needs downtime 4th of july or not.

This smells like personality trouble to me. You've been mis-used no doubt Cherie, but like previously posted it happens.
From your web info, you have too much experience to not end up on your feet. Hang in there.

They sound like jerks.

Getting let go, or quitting bands are part of the game.

Believe in yourself, and find a better band.

Strive to be a better player, and a good person.

Gigs will come.
