They fired me.

Judging strictly from the singer's cheesy glamour shots on the band's Myspace page -- not to mention the honeymoon(?) shots -- and contrasting that to your kick-*ss presence in the pic on your own page, I'd say you've won this battle, hands-down. FWIW.

Hey, they'd love you!!! LOL!

You know...its blues. Its not like there are a lot of super-fancy bass things that need done with the blues. I could probably be better on the Skynyrd, but those are some bada$$ bass lines, and there's not many who can totally fill that pair of shoes! As for the Tommy Shannon material, man, I'm great on it. I very much admire his playing style, and have worked hard so that, when I play his stuff, I reflect some measure of that tone and feel.

You're right...I lost that investment of time, but in the process, built a good reputation. Gonna have to make sure I keep it nice and shiny...the best coin to trade on is a good reputation, right?

Cherie :)

I am much more of a team player than a show-off guy; unless I have something intelligent to say in a conversation why speak?. When I decide to be fancy, I know I can.

Playing the blues is about as simple yet as complicated as it can get (the names you mention can really make a song move). You are consciously progressing as a player (advancing in bass playing) and as a person (being responsible to your own life and commitments). Many doors will open. Be sure about it; I am sure

Keep on rocking

They feel that I need a *lot* of improvement as a bassist. That I don't put in enough fills, and I don't know how to play chords like their old bassist did, and yada yada.

Yeah. Ok. I don't see them taking regular lessons, and they have plenty of room for improvement, too.

Honestly, I think they just used that one as an excuse to get rid of me. The new bassist is male. The Queen Bee won't be threatened by another female who can play and sing being on the same stage as her, anymore.

Cherie :scowl:

Cherie This is the kind of stuff that give us musicians a bad rap. One or two prople do stuff like this and it makes us all look bad. I've been a bassist for over 30 years now and have never NOT played unless I didn't want to. I'm 56 and have a 2 year old daughter and know about trying to balance both a family and still play. Be strong! Why don't YOU put a group together and go and kick their butts off the stage. Take their gigs, fans and popularity. Seeing as how they are flakes that should be easy. A band IS like family, and family don't treat each other that way.

As far as the thing about not enough fills. In 30 years I've learned one thing. If you want to work forever, forget going up high. Play LOW, SOILD and steady and you will be in demand always. Chords are for guitar players.

BTW you ARE 100 percent right on the "queen bee" angle. I've seen it before.

Good luck and kick a..

Carl

If you can swing it, I'd go out to the festival gig anyway even if he has another bassist, just to show interest in any future gigs.

Besides, the sub player may have a few ideas you can steal. :D

Good idea! You know, if my old man isn't just dying for me to come to his show, I might just go drive up the road and go to that festival. Tell the guys hey-n-howdy. The other bassist who took the gig is a buddy, and has his own working band, so it wouldn't be, like, competitive or anything. Heck, they'd probably put me up for a song or two!

Also, the Knowbodys singer and songwriter has given me permission to perform his original songs. They are *great* songs!!! The old band wouldn't play them...said they were the "wrong style". But this guitarist that still wants me to play for him LOVES the songs and wants, badly, to play them.

I smell something goooood!

Cherie :bassist:

BAH!

Good riddance to the DRAMA QUEEN, and her shallow
husband. :spit:

Now you can spend the whole rehearsal working on music instead of listening to her rant.

I told you over and over again to bail. They did you a favor. :)

And take the gig.

You're gonna be so proud of me!!!

I took the gig!!!

The other guy can't make it, so...I'm in! Its gonna be a tiny festival, with really low pay...and *awesome* material. I'm STOKED!!!

Cherie :bassist: :hyper:

That's sig material right there.

The good thing about this is that you've separated the bad friends from your life and now you can move on to a better band with better quality people. You probably should feel a weight lifted off your shoulders.

Feel free to use it, sugar! Just felt like it was beyond merely shooting themselves in the foot. Ooooh no. They used buckshot!!!

You know, while I am hurt and mad and all that...its not a hurtful or angering as I thought it would be. I'm kinda happy. No more drama and b.s.!!! The people I will play with at my pickup gig tomorrow night treat me like a sister, and we're not even a band. That's going to be nice.

Cherie :bassist:

I don't know you, nor much about you, but from the little I've read posted by you on the forum, you're a very mature and generally nice person. You don't wanna be in a band with people like that. Being honest, your commitments to your family could be a problem for potential work but, lets be honest, you don't want to be in a band with people who don't understand your family commitment, do you? Just keep on rockin', the right thing will come along, your reputation will stand you in good stead and people who want a solid bass player (who isn't an a5shole) will always be looking for people like you.

All the best in the future, it'll turn out well for you, thats karma!

i dont see how other adults act like this. maybe in a high school/college garage band, but people with real jobs and marraige? GAH

all that aside, you handled this well, and are getting what you deserve in the form of this festival. all it takes is one record exec...... but then again, you'll have to turn him down to take care of your kids :D

there is an awesome old quote about the most loyal mate being the 1st to walk the plank in a mutiny. or maybe its the leader is the first at the gallows? sometimes i wish i had been born in an era where they used sayings like this more frequently

good luck to you in any event.

When the Hell did playing chords become a required skill? Weren't you guys like a bluesy band?

I thought guitarists complained about bassists playing too busily! I've never heard of one getting fired for not playing busy enough!

I think you were right on ol' Queen Bee and her competition. I've seen your pics. No wonder she was worried! ;)

The drummer just called to tell me that I have been replaced. He stated the following reasons: 1) I cannot take road gigs of a duration longer than a weekend. 2) I asked the band to get a sub (two weeks ago, plenty of advance time) for a bar gig the night of July 4th, since we always spend that time as a family, for our children's sake. 3) My failure to take ongoing lessons.

Even though they have both only received limited instruction, I'm supposed to have been taking lessons all this time. But they never said anything about it after I took my lessons from Big Mike last winter. So...dishonest, much, oh erstwhile bandmates? You have a bassist who speaks to you when she has a problem, but you don't have enough respect for her to do the same?

For weeks now, the Couple have cancelled rehearsals, giving various reasons such as injury, illness, and fatigue. But they were lying to me. All this time, they've been working with someone else. They like him, find him to be a "good fit", and they want to keep him. Some guy from Vegas who was in an SRV cover band.

They don't even want me to play our local gig tomorrow night. I'm picking up my equipment tonight.

Three years. Three years of turning down other offers out of loyalty. Three years of putting up with the singer's drama-queen b.s.

Things had been going so well!!! We weren't having so much drama, and we have been building up our fan base like mad. We've been having *great* gigs! I have received *nothing* but compliments on my playing, from fans and fellow musicians alike, and it seems I have my own cadre of fans, without trying to get them.

But no, I'm not good enough for this band. Riiiiiiight.

They stood there and let me buy t-shirts for myself and my husbands, and make promotion plans, and take pictures and talk about upcoming gigs, knowing they were going to fire me. They hired someone behind my back, weeks ago. What a sorry couple of individuals!!!

Bastages. Liars. Phoneys. :scowl: :spit:

Danged sure no friends of mine!

Cherie :bassist:

Sorry to hear that - sounds like an excellent time to start a good smear campaign! :D

Anyone in the Leander TX area be sure to find the places where her old band is playing, go in, watch a few songs, then blurt out in between, "Hey, where's that girl you had on bass? She was killer! She's why I came! Bah!"

Then just leave.

Sounds like it didn't kill you and it did make you stronger! Good for you, Cherie!

Yeah, its nice to be needed. Let me tell you something you probably do not even suspect. You have made many friends on here. I know I can't be the only who always smiles when he sees you on here. You are good people and we will always have your back.

+1. This thread is only one and a half hours old and look at the outpouring of support.

Cherie, who knows, maybe in a few months you'll be sharing horror stories with the replacement bassist. :smug:

Yep!!! Stronger, better, faster...The Six Million Dollar Bassist! LOL!

That exact scenario is very likely to happen tomorrow night. I invited a *lot* of people to our show in Lago Vista. I know a lot of people there. They faithfully come to support us. But I won't be there, and they will be, like, shocked and stuff!

Yyyyyyep!
