Things bassist hate, Part 2

-People who fail to realize that a Bass amp will shake things. Seriously, secure your beers and other wares so I don't knock it off the shelf/ your amp (lookin at you keyboardists n guitarists)

-Bandmates who don't take care of their gear.

-Bandmates who don't invest in their gear. Seriously don't tell me to turn down, the rig i worked hard to afford is doing its job just fine, trust me.

-Obsessive compulsive FX fiddlers. You know, the guys who lose themselves (and everyone else) while screwing with an excessively equipped pedal board. Same goes for keyboardists who can't find a patch they like so they just cycle through while playing, as if hitting the right note with a different patch every 8th note is totally kosher.

-musicians who don't critique themselves. Ok, some people are just that good, but everyone has something they could learn, a little humility can shine a lot of light on improvement.

So many +1 comments! I'll second (and maybe add) a couple:

- keyboardists' left hands
- singers changing keys to songs, especially to something like F, Eb or Bb and the sweet bassline I came up with had open strings
- singers saying "the tab's all online" not realizing most of it is wrong and not bass related
- have to explain that playing something other than the root note isn't always wrong
- drummers that are confused by click-tracks

a whole song consisting of 8th root note

only grooving, like this is the only thing a bass can do

lack of creativity

People that don't have a minimum of musical knowledge

P bass ( especially by Fender ) and flat ... like this will resolve every problems

bassists who chide other bassists for 'root-digging'

For clarification, a "root-digger" is someone who only plays roots. This disease is rampant in the pop-punk genre. Obviously, there are songs for which that is applicable, but if you only ever play roots, you are no better than a pianist's left hand and not as necessary as a guitarist's low E string.

In Green Day's last two studio albums, Mike Dirnt fell to root-digging and it was very depressing.

THIS!!!! *argh* Musicians with an over-inflated view of their abilities. They can't/don't/won't listen to the simplest of suggestions/instructions, and even get offended by them. :scowl:

Don't know if this has been mentioned -> Lazy musicians. :eyebrow: These are the ones that sit back and hardly play; it's like they just want to be seen and associated with the band but not necessarily contribute to the band.

When the guitard/singer comes over and boosts the "bass" knob on my amps eq, cause he wants the song with "more bass in it, to make it sound big".

Seriously dude, that's not going to work, go away.

People asking me " why do you wanna buy a bass ??!!! go buy a guitar!! $600 is a lot of money bro!! "
you know i'm seriously thinking about ordering a t-shirt that says " I play the bass, b**** and there's nothing you can do about it " ..

Haha. I would wear that. I played guitar for thirteen years, but when i picked up a bass the first time it was like finally putting on a pair of jeans that fit. People still don't understand why i switched.
