Felix Pappalardi was the reason I first set my sights on playing one of these, but (even back in the dark ages before the intrawebs) it didn’t take a lot of research for me to figure out that there weren’t enough lawns that needed cutting in Hyde Park, NY for me to afford a Gibson.

...and so...

I traded in my first bass ( a $35 Silvertone) in on a Univox copy.
3 years later,
I traded that one in on my 4001.

40 years later, I started lurking around on EBay, in search of THIS Univox.
...very, very similar to the one I owned 1970/‘74...
Its got that Very same neck dive...and that very same fart-in-church tone!

Wow! I don’t know which I like better...the tuning peg configuration or the single f-hole!

That Gibson is The Ship!!

If we had one at our local music store, I might just move my recliner across town and set it down there and just sit there all day staring at it...
