Thinning the herd, What would you keep ?

This is my favorite at this point, 57 AVRI Roasted. The neck is incredible, and it weighs 7.3lbs. It’s a definitely a keeper.

Put the Badass bridge on the #2 USA PJ -4 and keep it....it can do just about anything you may need. (as a 4 string of course, Just add a Drop D tuner)
Just my thoughts...but also it's my taste too.
Have fun with the decision.

Oh and I'll take #2 if you want to give it away...lol

You have multiple P basses. Everyone needs a good P bass. If your house was on fire, all you had was the P’s, and you only had time to grab one of them before the roof collapsed...

The one you’d grab in that scenario is a keeper.

The second keeper is the one that sounds the least like a P.

If you want to keep 3, the third would be the one that complements the other 2. Two basses that are similar? ditch one.

My approach is to cover as much territory as I can with relatively few basses.

Any logic that begins with "Good P bass" is obviously on the right track. :)
Impeccable logic!

I would keep all of them EXCEPT the Ibanez 500 - and I'm a BIG Ibanez fan. I just don't like whatever coating/outer "skin" Ibanez has been putting on some of their less expensive models. I would sell the Ibanez and get another "finished" Ibanez - like a 800 series or greater. I have an Ibanez 800 (2010 or 2011)that is the "bees knees" - lightweight, good-looking with many tone options.

My list:

Sell: #1- 2016 Fender USA P-5 Standard Maple Black w/ Tort guard
Sell: #2- 2011 Fender USA PJ-4 Deluxe 60th Aniversary Sunburst w/ Black Guard
Sell: #3- 2010 Ibanez SR-500 Mahogany (I'm guessing this one is heavy)
Sell: #4- 2007 Lakland Korean 44-01 Natural

Keep: #5- 2001 Fender USA P-4 Standard Rosewood Black w/ Tort Guard
Keep: #6- 1998 Fender MIJ Jazz 24 Flame Maple Burst

Sell: #7- 1991 Fender MIM P-4 Standard CAR w/ Black Guard (63 vintage p/u, Badass)

Reasoning: with the possible exception of adding a StingRay, why do you need more than a good 4 string P and a good 4 string J? That should get you all you need and then some. And no, a single PJ bass can't sub for separately owning a J and a P.

If #8 was EBMM StingRay 4H, then that would be a keep, too. Plus, getting down to only 2 basses can make you feel more focused on practicing and playing out instead of collecting basses that mostly get unused.

So it’s time to thin the herd a bit. I have 7 basses that I may or may not sell. I still have all of the regular players separated out. I thought it would be interesting to see what everyone’s opinions would be, as which to keep or sell and why.

#1- 2016 Fender USA P-5 Standard Maple Black w/ Tort guard
#2- 2011 Fender USA PJ-4 Deluxe 60th Aniversary Sunburst w/ Black Guard
#3- 2010 Ibanez SR-500 Mahogany
#4- 2007 Lakland Korean 44-01 Natural
#5- 2001 Fender USA P-4 Standard Rosewood Black w/ Tort Guard
#6- 1998 Fender MIJ Jazz 24 Flame Maple Burst
#7- 1991 Fender MIM P-4 Standard CAR w/ Black Guard (63 vintage p/u, Badass)

So let’s hear your thoughts.
Keep #7, sell the rest and go on a really nice vacation. If you can't do it with a solid P, you can't do it!

Some things are intimate personal choices -- our opinions here really aren't helpful....Its like asking "Here's seven of my underwear, which ones should I keep?" (soon to be followed by the obligatory "the one with the G-String" response)
