This should make the 5-string haters go blind...:o)

Looks like 8 courses of three strings each to me, too.

I've played an 8-string (4x2) and liked it. I could even see myself with a 10-string (5x2) someday. This, not so much, though more power to you if you can make music with it. An impressive feat on the builder's part if the neck and headstock are stable and if that whole thing plays in tune.

Can/should is debatable, but I suppose some builders want to see what they can do and some people want to see what they can do with it! I imagine you'd learn something from building an instrument like that -- you might even apply some of it to your four- and five-string builds. Or maybe not.

It's not for me, but I won't waste my time hatin'. ;) I would be curious to see and hear one played.

Yes I have. Music for nobody but bored music magazine readers. It's wankery. Why hasn't it caught on with other cats? Cuz it sucks. It belongs to the smooth jazz circuit of sterility and poor album sales. Tony used to rock. Now he is like an info-mercial for a stick no one wants.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha :rollno:

Suit yourself, or go check out the numerous other Stick artists out there. I wouldn't call Rob Martino sterile or smooth jazz on his worst day.

On-topic, what's that natural-finish bass behind the guy? With the black guard. I like that body style. Reminds me of Tungs, or Carvin's SB series.

DSFDF. His stick work in KIng Crimson was, in my opinion, nothing short of amazing when I saw them on the Discipline tour. His counterpoint to Fripp and Belew rocked the house, and he and Bruford were in complete synch.

Just because you don't care for something doesn't make it bad music. I'll bet I think some of your faves suck, too. :D

Yes, of course this is only my opinion. I should not have pressed 'post' in hindsight. No one should have to explain why they like something. Initially I only wanted to legitimize my referral to the OP's post as 'ridiculous'. But the 'stick' is stronger than I thought apparently. No real intent to derail or anger everyone. Dig what you dig. Don't feel the need to justify to me. Just wait till my bass harpsichord idea gets cranking you won't be laughing then.

I will throw my hat in with yours. Personally I have never enjoyed music where the bass was the lead/main instrument and not an ensamble instrument. In my preferences there are some instruments whose timbre does not translate to this type of virtuosity or solo performance, electric bass being one of them. IMHO YMMV

Now this is not to say these multiple-string extended range basses can't be used as part of the ensamble, but many are designed to stand out and be played in a way I do not personally enjoy.

Tuba solo, anyone?
