this sounds stupid but is it ok to play punk live while sitting down not standing up?

Do you sit at band practice?

This is simple. When you're playing bass, just stand up. If you have the energy to stay awake and practice then you have the energy to stand up. I play death metal and people will leave shows if a band is just standing, I couldn't imagine what would happen if somebody was sitting. You're playing a show, you're on a stage for a reason.

I think that not standing is fine. Here's my vote:

No. It is not OK. And the same goes for rock, soul, funk, country and most other genres. The occasional coffee shop, mellow jazz, orchestra pit or acoustic gig will allow you to get away with that but that's about it. If I were your band mates I would be embarrassed.

Perhaps bass in not in the cards for you until your life settles down a bit.

Unless you're Mikey Houser then it was more than OK.

I think it would look cool if you were suspended in the air on a device while playing.
Now this device could be a chair or similar to a chair ...but you would hanging in mid-air.
But be careful...some nomind from the audience might come up on stage and start swinging you.

Make sure the chair is high enough that you can't be hit by beer bottles flung at you by the audience too.

Playing punk is like playing football with Vince Lombardi as the coach.
"To achieve success, whatever the job we have, we must pay a price"
“Success is based upon a spiritual quality, a power to inspire others.”
“There is no substitute for work.”
“It’s not whether you get knocked down, it’s whether you get up.”
“Once a man has made a commitment to a way of life, he puts the greatest strength in the world behind him."

etc., etc.......

You could sit cross legged on the floor and stare at the ceiling the whole time, that might add something to the show. Very rebellious and mysterious.

Or people might just make sure to avoid you in the parking lot after.
