This worth getting?.. (Peavey content)

What makes you think this 15 inch will push more air than the 210? I think you would be better suited grabbing an 8ohm 410 or 212 on the lighter side.

I have thought about that and have a few reasons for gett No this cab..

1) it's a taller 1x15 design. 2) It's price is cheap. 3) If the measurements play right I can put a K140 in it and get that vintage ton.
4) I love 15" speakers.




P.S. I'll be keeping one 210AV for rehearsals and small coffee shop gigs.

Hey, I hear you. love 15's myself, but I don't think it will solve the problem you set out to solve.
 
If that cab was made for a Black Widow, you'd be able to buy the same speaker in 8 ohms. That way you'd know the tuning was right.

In fact, if it already has a BW in it, you'd just need a new basket. In case you don't know, BW's are "reconed" by putting a new basket/cone/spider assembly onto the old magnet. Very quick and easy. Last time I bought a basket, I think it was $135.
 
General volume looks like it is very close to what JBL requires for the E140 (their chart shows inside dimensions and I'm guessing your measurements are outside dimensions). If the porting is close as well, you might wan to call JBL and see if they have any guidance/advice relative to using one of their 140 speakers this particular cab.

In general, I do not think the depth of cabinet is as important as total volume and ensuring there is enough room for the speaker to fit without choking off airflow/movement at the back of the magnet/voice coil area. Although I imagine there is a sweet spot for all the dimensions of cabinet based on the specific speaker itself and reflected energy and at least five other things.

As a back-up you have always have Peavey OE options.
 
What's the SPL sensitivity of the Black Widow? From memory it wasn't spectacular so the 2x10 is potentially louder, although it depends on the behaviour in the particular box.
I think most of the 15" BW's were around 96-97dB (1W 1m) SPL. That's from memory and I may be wrong, but suspect at least close.

I thought the mid 80s ones were 95, but I may also be wrong. The current ones are 99. A typical 10 is 97 (I can't be sure what's in the 210AV) but that gives a combined rating of 100, which is indistinguishable as a base number from 99, although response in the boxes may change this. I don't know what the t/s numbers for a 1985 vintage speaker is as the oldest manual I saw was from 1993, but it's worth modelling it for a new black widow. They seem to be available for $150, and net cost would be minus the sale of the 4 ohm one, so maybe $120 which seems an easier route than a basket replacement.

Those Peavey cabs are well built, although heavy by today's standards.

I'm an engineer, but speaker cabinet design is not something I have any experience with. There are people on the forum that have that expertise and their advice would be infinitely more valuable/reliable than mine.

I would definitely call JBL and get their advice once you have all the critical dimensions (including the porting). What they are likely to tell you will most likely come with the caveat that the stiffness of your enclosure is a variable they can't address in terms of speaker performance and that the dimensions they provided for speaker enclosures are what they recommend for optimal performance.

Rough calculations using the E140 data put you at about .1 cu ft larger in volume I think (about a 2% variance), which my gut would tell me is almost insignificant. I think you have good shot at this working, but once again I have never designed or built a speaker cabinet.
