"Make sure you tune your bass now. Don't want to be tuning in stage before we start our set. Bad image"

I don't even know where to begin

Me thinks your guitarist is nervous. Just ignore him. Smile. Play your parts. Don't sweat it.

Nobody knows what the hell the bassist does, anyway.

I'd be asking what prompted that. You never know, maybe the bass player you are replacing would wait until everyone else was ready to play before rooting through his backpack to find his tuner... Or maybe, despite all those shows he still suffers from stage fright and nannying those around him let's him manage the stress...

Of course, being TB, and him playing guitar he's never going to get a fair shake from the pundits here, but there could be a (somewhat) valid reason behind his text....

I agree with the above statem, and ask him if there's is anything else he'd like to advise you on.... Then remind him that hopping around with a guitar is actually quite bad for ones image as well.

Hi,

Get yourselves some tuners, either Boss TU-3 pedal tuners or Snark clip-ons. Then you can tune silently. I tune on stage before every set. But if the situation calls for it I can tune off stage before I walk on.

Unless you're playing a large club or stadium gig with a tech to tune up for you offstage before you walk on to an adoring, screaming crowd... tuning up silently onstage before the gig doesn't constitute an unprofessional image.

However, as previously noted, playing out of tune during the gig might be a bit of a train wreck.

And, by all means, please post a gig report. @BassCliff sets the standard around here if you need an example.
