I saw the Sam Bush band last year and these guys kept checking and adjusting their tuning while they were playing! In the middle of a song you'd see them check their clip on tuners and adjust a string or two.

Three hours to my first ever gig and...

I played my first gig when I was an overgrown 14 year old trying to channel the spirit of Sid Vicious & Jaco... we were definitely tuning up more than our axes before the show!

Good to see our brother of the low end with his head up and taking in the sights of his 1st ever gig. I wouldn't sweat the guitarist too much, he was clearly nervous ( as was mentioned the photo reveals much ) and was so focused on fret watching he didn't really get to drink it all in. Maybe you can give friendly advice on stage presence 
I left my bass in the car yesterday while I was at work. It was probably 10C outside, then ran off to practice in our guitard's basement. It needed a little tuning once I took it out

Exactly this. He got over it though.
Always silent, i use the tuner on my B3.
I tune between every. single. song. Not because I need to (very rarely out of tune at all), but because that's the "professional" thing to do.
I get this text from the guitarist
"Make sure you tune your bass now. Don't want to be tuning in stage before we start our set. Bad image"

Nice bass!Well it's a couple hours after the gig and it really couldn't have gone much better. Second band of a three band bill and we get the best crowd response of the night. Partly because 90 percent were there to see us though.
I totally agree with you guys. I tuned as usual and his clip on tuner got the job done, I think it was mainly nerves and him trying to get a smooth seamless set. It's was also the bands return to gigging after a couple months.
I've only got one crappy pic to share. We're waiting on the high quality ones from the drummers brother who is rather handily a photographer!

Most excellent! I'm glad things went well.
Man just go have fun and if you miss or hit the wrong note don't try to cover it up keep grooving forward. But to me it sounds like your all freaked out.spend a little time before you head out to the gig and run throw your opening song just to loosen your self up and if need be a shot of jack wouldn't hurt.
Make sure to never tune drums. It takes the natural sound away from them.

Oh, I'm not the OP I was just relaying the OP's update to someone who hadn't seen it yet
take an empty case with you , just put the tuner in , open in front of your guitarist and then say
"ooops".......
"ooops".......
Totally! We managed to get the crowd going at least. It was over way too soon.
We got good feedback from the crowd after so it can't have been too bad. I've never shaken that many hands in one night. Eagerly awaiting the next one.
