Thunderbird Club Pt. II

Hey guys, maybe someone here can help me. I'm currently in the middle of building an Epi T-Bird and I ran into a bit of a snag. I'm mocking up the neck and the body and I noticed the neck is angled backwards more then I'm used to seeing. So I measured the neck pocket and the pocket is 1/8" deeper towards the headstock end. I don't know much about T-Birds so I don't know if the pocket is supposed to be like this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That's correct. It needs that much neck angle to work with a 3 point bridge.

Here's a question. Where can I find a suitable facsimile for the Opti-Grab? I'd like to add one to my main bird, after I finish de-glossing the finish. I've considered buying a drawer handle from the hardware store, but I'm not sure of the size of the real one.

I found these at Home Depot - they are 1/2" conduit clamps. The plastic one "feels" right and will work just as good as the one on my Sixx- but I'm still looking to see if I can find something in chrome.

I had the chance to take a shot of my collection over the weekend.....To my dismay the digital camera's battery was dead so a cell phone has to suffice.

Ok,you have a serious addiction,my friend! (i'm WAY jealous) i would probably do the same thing if i had the dough ( only mine would be ric basses)...still,having owned a 67 epi embassy,i know how great the 'birds can be....

@ sj bass, I've added you to the club as posted on this page, you are # 152. Thanks for the gig shot too, obviously you're a happy Thunderbird owner!

..geez...help..I just went into some sort of 'music-induced' trance playing "fascination street" by the cure.

Note the M. Lull Neck Pup on this zebra model. Sounds like a big ole piano.

Love that Zebra 'Bird, a little chrome is nice next to the wood. Is there more chrome in the future?

Haha. I know exactly what you mean! I played that exactly 12 hours ago! Great song. I like using a flanger and distortion with it, I also prefer the 11s, 10s, 13s and 6s on the A string with the correct notes of course.

When I pimped my Bluebird, apparently I had the pickups wired out of phase, and when I would combine both pickups the sound was weak and thin - causing you to only want to use one or the other. I recently got the wiring corrected and the controls set up so the tone only affects the neck pickup while leaving the bridge always treble. I gigged it last night for the first time with both pickups engaged as they should, and wow... I was blown away! The neck pup is the stock Epi, and with the tone rolled completely off - it's a thump monster! Very Mudbuckerish. The bridge is a Lull, and has a very bright (but not harsh) Piano like ring and articulation to it. Combined together, the Bluebird sounds like a bulldozer! If anyone has an Epi, and can only afford one Lull pickup as an upgrade, you might want to give this configuration a try!
