Thunderbird Club

We roll on, you guys and gals make it the fun place to be, I don't spend any time on other club threads tho I understand the Spector guys are quite vocal as well.

Halloween's just around the corner.... My High Holiday!

I'll be working this year, we'll play a large party at a Casino on the 29th, I'm fretting over which basses/clothes wigs need to make the 125mi. trip. I was thinking of bringing my 3 '76s but I'm not certain yet.
That sounds like a fun gig. Since we were talking about fashion the other day, I would love to know what influences your choice of gig (and wig) attire, as I watched some of your band videos?

Will you and the band get "witchy" for the Halloween gig? Does the choice of bass(es) tie into the fashion choices? Is it one outfit per gig or do you change between sets, since fashion is part of the Nasty Habits show?

Good questions.

What do people do for stands? Normally a bass is on me or in its case but there may be occasions when it would be convenient to stand them up. There are $10 shortie triangular stands available but they probably don't fit a Bird's asymmetric bum that well. The Hercules stands are geeky cool looking but are they any good? How do they go with nitro finish?

For me, it's König & Meyer all the way...

I either use one 4-Guitar stand (model 17604) : Link Removed.

Or two 2-Guitar stands (model 17620): Link Removed

Great stands, very stable and holds a Thunderbird with no problems what so ever! :)

I recently got a Herc double stand so I only had to pack one piece for a show. Stuff is bulletproof.

I've got the TC Electronics Spectra Comp and really like it. The one thing I would do if that was my company would be to hire players to write the manuals that can write conversationally. The only hole in their game, I think, is that they don't explain what all the controls actually affect and how they interplay. There's too much trial and error among too many parameters involved in making a Toneprint. The tech is mind blowing, though, and I've got their chorus on my short list with the NXT bass Chorus. It'll be one of those for certain.

Kat, this might not be the greatest angle but it shows my T-bird on a Invalid Link Removed (and I don't have it on the highest setting). I like Hercules stuff. I have a couple of their shorty mic stands for amp cabs. I can't comment on the nitro finish thing, however. I do not leave it on there for long periods. The link above will take you to their site, which should provide info. I have also read where people suggest attaching self-adhesive felt to be extra cautious with guitar stands. I'll second that, big fan of the Hercules stands! I have a single, a double and a 5-rack (that can expand to 7 without an acoustic).

You read the manual?? :)

I sometimes choose the basses I play based on what I'm going to wear and vice-versa. The event often helps me decide this, for example we played several events this past Summer that required a very quick equipment set up and on the fly sound check with no time for any real wardrobe effort so I was wearing hot pants a tank top and sneakers for a couple of the shows out of necessity and ease. I deliberately choose my Jackson 'Bird because the stages were temporary and prone to boominess, it's capable of sounding great under those conditions.
We're playing here: Invalid Link Removed
A beautiful venue on Washington's Olympic Peninsula, we expect 1000-1500 peeps over the course of the evening, it's their biggest event of the year and we love playing there - it's the total rockstar experience with a great stage, lights, dressing rooms, a great sound crew, comped meal and rooms, plus a decent paycheck, it's a dream show for a cover band. We all take a serious approach to it, and plan ahead with some extra rehearsal time, and in this case I will be planning wardrobe with outfit changes between sets. This year I'm dealing with some red clothes for at two sets which means choosing basses that will contrast with it, right now that means the white '89 and the purple '76 as the primaries and since our last two songs are detuned a half step the red 7enderbird will come along too.
The FOH support at the venue is really good so I can travel "light" in terms of my rig, I use a GK 700RBII (it's well beyond loud) and a 4x10 aluminum cone Goldline cab that I originally picked up to use only for practice at home. The rig is basically my stage monitor, I get my "tone" out of it at a reasonable, relatively low volume and let the PA do the rest.
Packing it all up into one of the Subaru's takes a bit of planning, it's a Tetris with gear and suitcases, the trip home being far less fun than going out!

Have you seen the My friends a idiot thread :woot: I've been feeling low but that was a distraction for a bit :roflmao:

There once was a thread titled 7ender vs Squier, it was an epic crapfest of idiots, more than 30 pages long :roflmao:
High comedy when the Hyenas turn on themselves.

I'm staying well clear, not in the mood for baiting hill billies who frown at changing a Corona fitted screw :roflmao:

Edit, changed my mind
The OP in that thread is a hoot. On a different thread he claims to have three jazz basses, "two fretted on fretless". His other threads/posts are equally comical.
I can create a typo as well as the next guy, but a bit of proof reading before hitting send goes "along" way. ;)
