Thunderbird Club

Interesting. I was planning on the Rotos to replace the Fender rounds on the VP, and try Cobalt flats on the BaCH. A Thunderbucker is certainly in the hunt to replace the stock pup. Which Thunderbucker would most closely mimic an original vintage NR Tbird II, and what pot and cap values did those basses have back then?

Come to think of it, when the NR originally came out I suspect it had flats on it. What flats are available today that would most closely mimic the flats of that era?
Strings I've liked on either VP.
GHS Boomers (Round Cores are nice as well)
Dean Markley Blue Steels
Rotos (and I'm not going for angry piano at all. A misnomer that this is all Rotos can do.)
EBCFs (which I liked tone wise but I'm the sensitive type)
GHS Progressives (Alloy52) sounded great, but you can't get them. Roto has a version.

Currently the White has Boomers and the burst Rotos.

Interesting. Stock?
Did the new Spector change the upper horn shape? It looks thinner at the base and a bit less flowing than I recall.

That one looks....flatter to me. Also the top horn looks thinner to my eyes but it could be something with the angle? I grabbed the shot from a video so that could account for it.

Beautiful bird (I like the staggered knob look best), also an awesome strap, where’d you get that?
That’s the Gibson Slingshot. They were readily available at all the usual retailers until a few years ago. I bought it at a music store in Costa Mesa about five or six years ago. I tried to find another one a few months back and struck out. Haven’t tried again but should. I usually use it with the Silverburst, but I’m liking it on the New NR for now. They’re very nice straps.

Alright, folks.

The Fenderbird is due to fly tomorrow evening at a gig!

We’ll see how this goes. I’ll channel my inner Ox as best as I can. I’m excited to see how it goes.

I did run it through my board (tuner, Cali76, Morley Power Fuzz Wah, Noble) to my Ampeg 50th Anniversary/ 8x10. It sounded really, really good. I won’t have an amp tomorrow night, but I’m confident it’ll be great.

Wish me luck. I’ll try to get a picture!

Hit it! Good luck

Thunderbird Thursday! Newest addition to the herd! Man this thing is a brute. Absolutely amazing tone. This makes my 3rd Cataldo. The three concentric pots make for simple effective tone blending though I may switch them out for just three volume controls. Big surprise I settled on the middle pickup with the tone full up. It's a keeper, I'm really glad I grabbed it. More pictures and video to come. View attachment 4615690

When I tried going from six to twelve, life got harder. When I went from six to four, it got so much easier and better. Why you tryna hurt me?

Twelve is almost easier than four. Just a little bit of more strenght for the fretting hand but that developes quickly plus you can play less notes as the sound is so big. There's of course the unfortunate thing called neck dive but that's not an issue in this group! :D

What's the consensus on the probucker 760 pickups? that's what the embassy comes with...

That's what the Vintage Pro has. They're killer for an early Thunderbird style tone. They can do the Angry Piano. Crank 'em up next to the strings. I still don't get quite the same low end out of mine that I get from the CP, but it's close, and the overall tone is excellent.
