Genuine question. What is the appeal of the Fenderbird? It's just a Tbird with a Fender neck, right? Or is there more to it?
Cuz John Entwistle in a skeleton suit with a Fenderbird.

John Entwistle said he liked them because of the wider/fatter neck than was on the Thunderbird, My fingers would get tangled up at the top of the neck" I think his words were. But I think it was just to keep the Fender boys happy, it couldn't possibly neck dive with a Fender neckGenuine question. What is the appeal of the Fenderbird? It's a big misunderstanding, it originated in the late 60s when there was an attempt by a chap called Gibson to get the "neck Dive" included as an Olympic sport. Unfortunately some with brains that aren't capable of wining an IQ competition with a frozen pea heard about this but when they turned around and walked into the lamp post again for the fifth time that minute they looked up and saw a poster of Cream with JB and his EB0, the rest is legend! What is this 'neck dive' I keep hearing about?
My Epi has never had a problem. Lucky maybe...

From John Entwistle Gear: 1971-1974 | John Entwistle Bass Gear | Whotabs
"Once I realized the Thunderbird was the bass I was going to be playing for a few years, I panicked because they stopped making them. I went to Link Removed [156 West 48th St., New York, NY 10036], and told them to buy up the whole stock, so consequently I got ten two-pickup Thunderbirds. Some of them had harmonic, microphonic pickups, so I couldn’t use them, and with the rest, I just couldn’t get the action as low as I wanted. So I used the pickups and hardware and bought some blonde Fender Precision necks and had some old style Thunderbird bodies built for the Fender necks to fit, and I’ve been using them on stage more than the Thunderbirds. I use them for recording as well. Blonde Precision necks are my favorites; those and Rickenbackers. Thunderbird necks tend to be too thin down at the bottom. I get my fingers all tangled up when I go to the first fret."
Welcome aboard!'Just got my Epi Classic Pro T-Bird done.

As cool as this bass looks, it plays even better.
I got the bass here on TB, w/HSC.
I got the aluminum scratchplate from tolian_soran, in Germany, on eBay.
The scratchplate looks lighter, not as black in person, basically a mirrored finish.
I got the black metal skull knobs from AllParts.
The Hipshot Supertone bridge is available in lotsa places.

Fenderbirds are for the same reason as anything else - because you can. I'm building one because there are times when a 7ender Precision sound is what I want. A 'Bird comes pretty close, but a P sounds like a P. So, that means 'Bird shaped body with P pickup in the P spot with a P bridge and P neck. So, it's a P with 'Bird ergos. I don't like 7ender ergos near as much for about 95% of what I play, and a 'Bird will rotate around horizontal for that last 5%.

I'm a bit pressed for time this morning, am packing gear out for a road trip, (more on that later) plus my home computer is being a bitch. I will bring the list forward and add you to the club, it will likely be on 10/31 - Just wanted you to know. Awesome 'Bird! Don't you have a Gold Les Paul OSB as well? I've long lusted for a Black one, so badass!
