I stumbled across these Thunderbird pickups on Reverb. Anyone heard of these? I don't remember us ever discussing them. I couldn't find any sound clips of them.

hey, yes I know the very minimum. Alt Dim pickups are by a US company Stonewall Pickups. An acquaintance from the Oz Bass Forum (Paul CurtainSmith) is building basses and guitars now and has commissioned his own CurtainSmith guitars spec Stonewall Pickups for them.
I don’t know anything specific about the Tbird pickups though.

The ones Paul uses on his basses are double wide so they look almost square. They come with a variety of finishes (incl tort!). The CurtainSmith ones generally have a vol knob and a couple of switches for other functions including serial/parallel. He also has active as an option.

Those Embassies look like a bargain. I like the burgundy and green. When I saw the beige online I thought it was a terrible colour*, but in person it actually looks really good.

And first things first when it arrives - GET RID OF THOSE UGLY KNOBS!

Such a beautiful bass. I hope it figures out how to escape the mad man with the fret puller.

even if the 21nr’s came in more colours I’d have still ended up with these…

the embassy basses would still be a bargain at $900, I am super impressed with most everything about them (tunas are kinda cheaper than usual)

the 2021 NR is almost 4x the price, but I don’t feel I overpaid…

there’s just a metric buttload of good stuff out there nowadays…

the Ric 4003AC I just got was even more expensiver, and it’s worth every damn penny..

fugly knobs already changed on the first one….

the Inverness NR is fretted, and the burgundy embassy is fretted

As much as I love SRV, I think I like the Beatles version better. I never have said those words before. You have left me almost speechless.

I do like this version.

As much as I love SRV, I think I like the Beatles version better. I never have said those words before. You have left me almost speechless.

I too love SRV (and saw him with Jeff Beck and Jeff Healey).

I found this as I was looking for non Beatle versions of the song (a large number of artists have covered it) but SRV's is the most different.


It occurred to me that SRV's version would be interesting as Randy Bachman told the story of SRV contacting him to do a cover of Takin Care of Business and then playing it in the style he thought that SRV would have done. I like it as a shuffle and play it that way now.

Also, the Tommy Shannon bassline is nearly identical to the original except for the transition from chorus to verse (and adjusted to a different key).

Too cool! TK is my #1 guitarist of all time. Got to see the original 7 in 1969 and 70. Didn't know he played bass, but really not a surprise.

Yes, there's been a lot of controversy lately. Part of it is from Giles Martin going through the studio logs as he remixes stuff that IMHO should stay the way his father mixed it. Ahhhh. I feel better now.

One of my pet peeves is the wave of "remastered" albums the last decade or so, where "remastered" really means "remixed" and/or "re-engineered" - sometimes with alternate tracks. We hates it, my Precioussss. The songs did so well because they were AWESOME AS THEY WERE.

Morning. Been playing a lot with the non-reverse recently and decided I really like it too (I was a bit "lost" with it for a while). With the good strap (Levy's) it doesn't even dive. Where do those stories emerge. Oh, sorry, it dives like crazy of course...

It has a belly cut too, not big but comfy.

I just re-stringed it with Pro Steels (got to use the bright strings since these basses are muddy, right?) and will do a comparison with the Epi VP soon as it sports the same set.
