Thunderbird Club

Ok, thanks. That is the interesting though in itself - 2 very similar instruments.

I found it odd that there is a 3rd pre drilled hole for the bridge.
That’s for everyone rushing to retrofit 3 point bridges….
As a guess, they have a drill press that drills all three holes simultaneously. With Gene having spec'd a Hipshot bridge, the simple solution is to drill as you would for a three point.

My Bird's previous owner purchased it from Apple Music in Portland......

I had my hands all over this thing again today.

Oh wow! I remember Apple very well!
She’s such a beauty.

I really like RS66 on the white Thunderbird. Steel and Thunderbirds seem to be made for each other. Perhaps if I get around to following @BklynKen the evangelist of SITs, I may start using them. But for now, this is the plan
Rotosound Swing Bass 66 Stainless Steel Bass Strings 45-105 | Long & McQuade (long-mcquade.com) in 40-95
I'm a faithful follower of Bro. Ken. He preaches the truth regarding SIT Power Steels. They sounded good enough to keep on the '06 (but I liked the idea of black tapes), so they are on a Jazz and will stay there. Maybe slightly less highs, but more mids across the board. Kind of what I'm hearing anyway.

I was gonna search, but then I remembered the rule, so, does anyone know if SIT makes flats?(asking for a friend )
Yes, but never tried them. Ken said that Mark (DukeofRock) has and liked them.

Like their other strings, they are reasonably priced. Saw one set for $29 + Sh on Reverb.

TY. I cheated and went looking. 45-65-85-105. If my EBCFs ever die, I might try them.

Yeah, I thought so too. Sounded great to me.

I found it interesting on the 2nd review by the troglodyte that there is no rout under the pickguard and that there was a 3rd hole for a 3 point bridge. I’d actually love someone to compare this bass to the T’bird studio.
If the Studio has no rout under the pickguard i’d start to get suspicious they were using G2 to sell some left over Studio bodies. I guess that’d never happen. :)

On the 2013 vs 2015 clip, I really liked the 13, but I really really liked the 15. Oops. Danger lies this way.
With the set neck there is no reason to rout the body. Drill from the neck pocket to connect the pickup cavities then drill from the input jack to connect to the control cavity. The only obvious reason for the set neck is to add the binding. It's 10,000x easier to rout for binding on a set neck body.
