Thunderbird Club

That bass is actually a direct descendant of this NR I built in 2008. Cataldo saw was influenced by my build, I supplied him with patterns and measurements to build NRs. Both basses used my '68 Thunderbird II I bought in '77 as a pattern.

…great to hear that… should be “the bass” for me… :bassist:

I managed to play the GS Thunderbird today. It is thinner than I expected (my standard of comparison being a Thunderbird CP). It plays really nicely. Looks good in person. Overall, a very nice bass.

Still not sure that it is C$3500 nice.

Yeah, about that...

I had an email earlier in the week that it came in (same time as the GS Thunderbird came in). I managed to go pick it up this afternoon.

Fortunately, it is supposed to be rainy this weekend, so I will have some time to get to know it.

It's about damn time! mine was worth the wait!

You sly little devil you.

My '64 has utterly spoiled me................... None of the others are bad, they're just not the '64 neck. Without a doubt it's the best neck I've ever played.

…yeah, totally agree, the neck is like no other….but the sound of the NR is like no other too… so what’s the difference?…(pic below, someone saved a destroyed early 60s rev neck)… for performing live, it doesn’t make much difference, put the right(rev) or the left(NR) foot forward…

Indeed. The sound ain't bad on those either.;) I must say that my '06 has the same feel, just not the age and smoothness that age can bring. It very nearly feels the same.

This is why my '64 is the gold standard in feel and tone. Nothing compares. Which explains why I had such a difficult time adjusting to the sound of the '06. (Until one plays the deal deal, explaining it misses a lot.) The '06 felt like a Thunderbird to me, but didn't sound like one (the gold standard I had known for decades). There's a poor analogy regarding true love and infatuation. Infatuation can certainly be fun and have its place, but it's no substitute for true love. Better analogies might get banned!

I only once ever played the real deal back in PDX.
Portland Music Company, was one of the owners at that time, was for display only.
And I'd have to agree on tone and playability.

And that thing was super lightweight.
That would be an end all bass for me.

Finally! Congratulations. What did you think about the neck of the G2 Thunderbird compared to the CP?
Not played back to back, so take it with a few grains of salt. The neck on the GS is very nice, but I am a hack; if there is a meaningful difference, it is probably lost on me. I play basses with a few different sizes of necks and have no trouble moving from one to another.

My Bird's previous owner purchased it from Apple Music in Portland......

I had my hands all over this thing again today.

Glad I got my paws on the GS Thunderbird this afternoon. It appears that it is now sold!
