Disagree. I think you said it better (more precisely) the first time.couldn’t have said it better….![]()
You have a better tech than me. Mine always complains, procrastinates on important jobs like intonation, and always wants a beer break. My tech checking the nitro's checking. It was tasty I guess.

I hadn't thought of blaming the strings for my lame playing. Thanks for the pointer!
Lousy Bass Players with Expensive Gear Club- This would be me as well. But I enjoy it like I were great.
Remember, If you can't play good, you can at least sound good. (My number one rule for bass playing.) Keep your pick on the strings. I'm pulling for you. We're all in this together.
sure seem to be getting good mileage with it…...Would you all consider a junior membership for lousy bass players that have lower priced gear? My Thunderbird IV only cost me $300 including the custom Gator case.
Did someone say beer? You have a better tech than me. Mine always complains, procrastinates on important jobs like intonation, and always wants a beer break.
If you buy more expensive gear, especially vintage gear, it might make you a better player.Would you all consider a junior membership for lousy bass players that have lower priced gear? My Thunderbird IV only cost me $300 including the custom Gator case.
Scared me for a moment. What's a Canadian dollar worth these days? Hey, that's still more than the Queen paidIf you buy more expensive gear, especially vintage gear, it might make you a better player.
Only one way to find out. Do the experiment.

Buy it. BUY IT!
Love that track. Thanks for posting it Jeff. It’s been too long.
I read those when you first posted them. Couldn’t figure out exactly what you were talking about. My best guess on what you said is that AC coupled amps have a degree of latency or lag in them and it becomes apparent in fast picking or staccato type playing. Is that correct?
I have to admit, I never noticed any lag on my tube amps (SVT-VR and Musicman HD150) but then again I wasn’t listening for it. Besides, I only play finger style so I assume the effect wouldn’t be as apparent as if playing with a pick where up strokes and down strokes can happen pretty fast and each stroke has a different attack tone. I play mostly SS now days so I guess I don’t have to deal with it.
What I have noticed is that some strings respond much faster than others. I can’t recall a specific song off the top of my head but some of the ZZTop stuff requires fast reps on the A and E strings and IIRC I’ve had to switch basses to play them correctly because the strings couldn’t keep up with the song.
LOL - I guess I just unintentionally went there - blaming my lack of ability on the strings. BTW - did I mention I’m a standing member of the Lousy Bass Players with Expensive Gear Club.![]()
Going down that rabbit hole next door....Burrell always impressed me as having a very unique style. He had some crazy groovy bass lines.
There’s two criteria to join the club…Would you all consider a junior membership for lousy bass players that have lower priced gear? My Thunderbird IV only cost me $300 including the custom Gator case.
I almost ran out of fingers trying to figure that one out. So, I passed number 1. Not sure if I pass #2, which is why I asked for a junior membership. There’s two criteria to join the club…
1) a clear lack of talent
2) a sum of money spent on instruments that isn’t justifiable by your playing level.
Here’s a quick test to determine your talent level, it’s a pass or fail question and you have 2 seconds to answer it:
Q) On a fretted 4 string bass in standard EADG tuning, at what fret on the D string will you find B#?
As for money spent, it’s all relative. If you only have $300 to your name then $300 spent on a bass would be a fortune.
My SVT-VR is typically connected to my Bergantino NV610 which is a sealed cab IIRC. Never noticed any issues with it, lag or distortion wise, but I haven’t played it loud in at least 10 years now and I wasn’t really ever listening for it back then.No decent tube amp is going to have noticeable lag, especially an SVT through a sealed 8 x 10 unless it's cranked way up too loud, they do feel different than a SS amp though. They were really the first bass amps that could play both loud and precise although some people will say the Acoustic 360 was the first but I don't know enough about them to have an opinion. Part of the reason is the tight cabs and the other part is they can go very loud without distortion, 6550's are hard tubes, it takes a lot to make them break up. The sealed 810 cabs stop the cones very quickly because they didn't have a lot of volume of air inside the cab which contributes to their ability to stop quickly.
Your in!I almost ran out of fingers trying to figure that one out. So, I passed number 1. Not sure if I pass #2, which is why I asked for a junior membership.

something about B/C and E/F...if I could only remember...I used all my fingers trying to find it. I thought it odd that it landed on the C note.![]()
