Thunderbird Club

I was playing it on the phone to my then girlfriend using the phone as a contact microphone, of course she couldn't hear it anyway and with trying to juggle the phone and playing it at the same time it slipped. i used to sit on top of the cellar stairs in my parents kitchen with the door shut so no one could listen to my conversations, i wore out at least one phone cord. I have a lot of stories like that, my dual Showman cab falling out of a pickup truck going up a hill landing on it's back so all the speaker screws pulled through the baffle board, a BORROWED Super Beatle amp falling off a roof during a drunken gig.
Playing a 15-20 minute jam song with a Hell's Angel drummer who just banged the snare over and over again and couldn't keep a beat to save his life, but none of us were going to kick him off the stage . They did force the bartender to give out free drinks to everyone though. Being a kid and playing in a band was a lot of fun though.
Please include and elaborate on these in the book you need to write.

How do you like the Marshall MB? I have a large one kicking around somewhere
It’s the 60 watt version. I paid next to nothing for it, it’s in great shape and the channel with the tube pre sounded really good. Don’t care much for the “modern” channel. But it’s heavier than my Mesa 4x10. Anyway, something seems to be off with it now. I use it at low volume in my home office and it’s fine for that.

I’m thinking of hauling it up to the get together in July and asking Dr. Stiletti to have a look at it. Good excuse to go back up later on to pick it up and maybe catch a gig.

Had a videoshoot today. The Peavey head and the cab were at the place already so they made a good prop and I didn't have to haul my cab there.
I wore black except for a silver tie which almost matches the NR. Got to find an inverness green tie.
Looks like my old Peavey rig. (My head was the previous version with metal stitches.). Wish I had it back.

I gave the cab to a young dude guitar player who was going through some drug issues. He acted like he could use it as he was getting back on his feat. I think he sold it 30 minutes after he picked it up. One of the many times I tried to help him and support him. I finally took my own advice and stopped helping. He actually was shocked I stopped supporting him in various ways. You can help in limited ways, but you can't get someone to do what they are not ready to do for themselves.

Great thinking! I'd be taking stuff to him all the time for those very reasons, even if nothing was wrong, but the dude just lives too far away.

You can't help someone who refuses to help him/herself. It is heartbreaking that tough love/severing ties are the only options.

I loved mine for the longest time when I got it. But Once I ventured into other amps, I found the MB to be a rather sterile sounding machine.

Very easy to believe.
Not a Jazz fan here, but I do like a good P bass and through an Evo II and 212 I’m sure it sounded great, that’s a deep creamy smooth head and nice punchy cab - but - as good as that sounded I’m positive the Greco sounded even better. Of course the guy behind the strings has a bit to do with it as well. :D

What strings are you sporting on your Greco these days? I have newish Boomers on my Greco IV and ancient TI’s or Roto Flats on my Greco II. Love em both but will need to restring some day.
cheers George! really liking the GHS Boomers on that, they have mellowed somewhat and are perfect (for me) on there now….

You have backwards - You live too far from Chucky

I loved Dunlops on my 750 Interceptor. Fantastic cornering, and did fine on the stupid wavy concrete rain cuts.

My '93 VFR750 originally had Dunlops on it when I bought it and I replaced them twice with the same set before switching to Michelin Power's, which I still use today on my 800 Interceptor. Use Michelin's (Power Road 25's) on my road-bike also. Once you trust what meets the road - you 'stick' with it. ;)

Had Pilots on my 91 Stealth TT but the compound was so soft they wore out after a few times at the track and a few road miles...and they weren't cheap. Hate to see what my truck tires are going to cost today when they wear out.

Now, that was a heavy GT and not a bike...

I cooked a set of Michelins on the track, and they gave no warning before they turned to wood. My bike has a set of Michelins on it now, and I felt an ugly slip coming to work a couple days ago. Time for new shoes. Not Michelins. Probably Pirellis or Dunlops.

I'm really, really happy with EBCFs on the Flamingo with Thunderbuckers. That combination can get nasty sounding, but it can back off and be polite, too. Neck pickup backed off just a little, bridge pickup backed off about 1/3, and the tone just off open is almost perfect.
