You absolutely can learn to use a pick Jeff - trust me, it will give open up a whole new world of articulation and tone for you. (and it's fun!) I dabbled with picks from the beginning - I even used felt and rubber picks. But I stuck with finger-style until joining Bond Girl. I simply started playing with a pic every day and now I am super comfortable and dexterous playing with one. I developed a light touch, I never drop a pick and I can palm it and play finger-style within the same song. (I do this on Skyfall) Just work it in to your daily playing, a little at a time.

I keep trying, then i just throw in the towel.
But i'll keep at it.

Whereas, my problem with any strings is that I tend to play with a 'death grip' and since I rarely practice, my fingers get tired quickly.
This past(Memorial Day)weekend, I had gigs Fri., Sat., and Monday, followed by a concert band rehearsal Tuesday night. All that helps build up the callouses but also hurts a bit. Now where'd I put the Ibuprofen...
Between arthritis and peripheral neuropathies, I learned early on to have a light touch fretting.

Just take a shower with it. Do NOT plug it onto the amp while showering. Use a gentle shampoo with a clean cotton washcloth, no conditioner required. A gentle stroking action on the neck and fretboard are best. The put it under a heat lamp for an hour or so to dry. Good as new!
I'm pretty sure that there is an ahem in there...

?
I'm sure that there is a "Florida man takes a shower" story behind that...

You mean practicing works??? :wideyed:

I keep saying this to my daughter when she is frustrated that something that looks easy isn't...

It's hard to convey the reality that if you do something enough, there will be a point where it ceases to be frustrating and evolves into fun. :)

Same here. Except I’ve now officially decided that a pick is not in my future. The arthritis in my right hand makes holding a pic difficult and after just 5 or 10 minutes of playing I’m in serious hand pain and cramping. I can play finger style for hours with no problems, so that’s what I’m gonna do. Can’t say I didn’t give it a try, and I know I’m missing out on a whole range of sounds, but that’s life. Does make me wish I had tried picks 20 years ago.

I hear ya on the arthritis George.
I’m fighting that a little now.
Although it’s worse in my left hand then right.

Supposedly a miracle cure for everything from headaches to hemorrhoids.
