I’ve used full spectrum CBD. Great for pain but tastes like and feels like I’m in a fog the next morning.

Same here. Except I’ve now officially decided that a pick is not in my future. The arthritis in my right hand makes holding a pic difficult and after just 5 or 10 minutes of playing I’m in serious hand pain and cramping. I can play finger style for hours with no problems, so that’s what I’m gonna do. Can’t say I didn’t give it a try, and I know I’m missing out on a whole range of sounds, but that’s life. Does make me wish I had tried picks 20 years ago.

Pretty similar to the reason I'm trying to learn to play finger-style now.....my right thumb cramps up, and my cts makes part of my hand go numb. I can sometimes get through one, maybe two songs before I have to stop & rest a bit, get the numbness to go away.

But, I've always played with a pick, it's how I learned, so learning the other way has been....challenging.

Between arthritis and peripheral neuropathies, I learned early on to have a light touch fretting.

I was having fretting hand problems years ago with guitar. Again, Guitar Player to the rescue, discussing a lighter touch. Bam. Fast forward years later to bass, left hand unhappy, GP memory floats to front, all is well.

Whereas, my problem with any strings is that I tend to play with a 'death grip' and since I rarely practice, my fingers get tired quickly.
This past(Memorial Day)weekend, I had gigs Fri., Sat., and Monday, followed by a concert band rehearsal Tuesday night. All that helps build up the callouses but also hurts a bit. Now where'd I put the Ibuprofen...

When I was a kid I played so hard I destroyed the last two or three frets on a P bass......with flatwounds, with the setup I had at the time I couldn't hear the strings hitting the frets either. I still like to dig in but play considerably lighter.

My most "angry piano" tone I've ever recorded ('07) using my Kubicki Ex-Factor through an SWR Goliath/400s tube pre-amp head mic'd. (this is a one take improv trio recording using real-time loopers)



My Fender/Kubicki 9v pre assisted Saudersbird comes close... hummm, something tells me there is something in common...

I like both and the first one is really good, I like freeform stuff.

LOL - you clearly need a more expensive car so you can justify spending more money on basses.
Off topic - but IIRC you’re also a frequent user of Pyramid Flats. Donnie seems to favor the chrome nickel flats, is that what you use as well, or do you lean towards the Pyramid pure nickel flats?

When i first started playing, i was heavy handed af.
Stayed that way even until i eventually got a little better at playing.
I practiced all the time, amp or no amp.
Never killed any strings back in those days, go figure.
In recent years, i changed my right hand technique, (go ahead gang, ahem! )
So the heavy hand is now gone.
