Thunderbird Club

My most "angry piano" tone I've ever recorded ('07) using my Kubicki Ex-Factor through an SWR Goliath/400s tube pre-amp head mic'd. (this is a one take improv trio recording using real-time loopers)

My Fender/Kubicki 9v pre assisted Saudersbird comes close... hummm, something tells me there is something in common...

You know, as often as I've heard it touted here, I think I totally missed the boat on what exactly Princess Fingers™ are.
There are a few of us who can't play EBCFs. As discussed a few pages back* within minutes of playing, fingers become sore. The best guess right now is that we suffer an allergy to cobalt. I think the best way to describe the sensation is it feels like the strings contain very tiny cheese graters that are gradually wearing through the skin.

* Standard Thunderbird club definition of a few pages back.

Nice playing on both!
Impossible to hold still on that second song, I bet it gets butts out of the seats and feet on the dance floor!
As for the first song, your bass sound was very reminiscent of another great bass player on a classic prog song…

Some people's fingers apparently don't like/are allergic to Cobalt Flats. I'd be tempted to give them some flak about it, but since it includes a pic of Kylie...:)
Please don't make fun of Uncle PillO or myself. I'm very forgiving. Uncle PillO on the other hand has something of a devious get-even-streak that sneaks up on people.

I started on rounds but around 2005 I began using mostly flats for a number of years, but have begun to rekindle my love for some rounds and SS in particular--and I'm not the angry piano type. Just doesn't work for what I do.

Totally understand that. I gave up on rounds because of the feel and they simply just don't last very long for me.
Certain flat wounds just have some real magic in the mids.
Something i can't ever get out of rounds, or requires massive eq to get them there.
I do like the angry piano tone myself. Maybe things might change with all this if i ever got back into a band.
Then again, also depends of the type of music as well.

I'm still thinking it's the Pu-238 in the strings that's the real problem.

What I love about flats is the chocolatey tonal thickness they bring. EBCFs and Chromes aren't chocolatey, however, in my experience. Pyramids are at the top of the great flat list for me of late.

I like both. But the tone from the Saudersbird recording is superb. Big, punchy and full.

I hate the way rounds feel on fretted, and hate the sound of flats on fretless, but the feel of rounds on fretless is good.

I hadn't been playing fretted much, and until recently didn't have many fretted, but have gotten a couple I like enough not to defret them.

Pyramids are top of the string food chain for me, and cobalts a distant second, but still an excellent set of strings.

I always wipe my strings with baby wipes, and never replace them. like never.

Whereas, my problem with any strings is that I tend to play with a 'death grip' and since I rarely practice, my fingers get tired quickly.
This past(Memorial Day)weekend, I had gigs Fri., Sat., and Monday, followed by a concert band rehearsal Tuesday night. All that helps build up the callouses but also hurts a bit. Now where'd I put the Ibuprofen...

Definitely not making fun of you. If they bother you don't use them*. The strings themselves don't bother me, it's my(lack of proper)technique.
* like some of the meds that are advertised on TV: "If you're allergic to ____, don't take it". Howinnahell will I know if I'm allergic w/o taking it?:banghead:

I should point out that I'm not the least bit 'sick of' the EBCFs. The set I just took off had been on for ~1 1/2 years and had gotten kinda :dead:. Thought I'd give the SITs a shot. They're sounding real good through my 'practice amp'(see pic). I may hafta f---* with the EQ on the gigging amp. Hopefully, I'll get over it.;)

Added bonus: they're the least expensive flats I could find.
