Thunderbird Club

Well, thats one way to insulate wires I guess. Looks like somebody decided to coat the bridge ground and the common pot ground wires in silicone vs just leaving them bare. Can’t imagine why unless they were chasing a RF or hum noise issue and they thought it would help. Sure looks umm, gross.
Let's hope it's silicone.

Allergies. Maybe someone had allergies.

That was me that initially mentioned rounds tend to sound scooped compared to flats. Poorly worded on my part. Better said: Flats are more balanced across the freqs than rounds is my experience. Many rounds to my ear have a dominate mid that's either low-mid, mid-mid, or upper-mid, whereas most flats seem to not have the dominance of certain mids (contra TIs), as rounds to my ear. Generally.

You nailed it! Balanced across the frequency range. I haven’t found any round that’ll ever match that.

To answer @GonePlaid on if I like the Dunlops, meh, they’re ok.
Anything beats rusty alien encrusted strings.

And @TBird1958 had it right, there is a delicate side to this alien :roflmao:

So you'll be playing Thunderbirds with rounds on them - and you will like it! :woot:

I use flannel mutes with round wounds, they sound like flats with a little more mids to me or at least I can play most music that you would use flats for.

Due to green underlining, someday, I will try this.

I’ll have to try that. I’ve got some foam I could use. We’ll see how it goes

The flannel is a lot better IMHO because you can roll them to fit anywhere from just touching the underneath of the strings to take off a little new round wound string shimmer all the way to big ones you stuff under for some old fashioned thump. I regularly play blues here using a Jazz with a mute and Rotos.

I hate to desecrate this thread by posting a Fender, but sometimes ya gotta do it  I'll keep them thumbnails for delicate eyes. I even did Willy one better, I included my pajamas and slippers.
