Thunderbird Club

Hi, all. Hope everyone is doing ok in this crazy world.

After having my first-rum VP since what 2018 (?) I noticed that when I turn both volume knobs down I was still getting a tone. I took it to one shop and they said some wires were reversed somewhere but could not figure it out. I drove an hour to leave it with a luthier guru but have not heard back from him yet.

Anyone have this issue with either the VP, or any other bird?
No, but had that problem with a Geddy Lee Jazz I once had.

I really dig that Ashdown of yours and imagine is sounds great. I've said before that I took a cheap Ashdown SS head in on trade once and I really loved how warm it sounded. Should have kept it as a spare or something with a different flavor. Without question the warmest SS head/amp I ever played. My Peavey Mk head was not far behind. If I had more money and less sense I'd buy an Ashdown. I'd love to have Chucky's Ashdown rig as well. Just has to sound great.
Ever play a Gallien-Krueger 800RB?

Tubes can make a huge difference! You can revoice preamp or poweramp (or both) by changing tube brands and/or types.
I have been having a lot of fun making git-box noise through a variety of completely underpowered tube combos. 5 watts is plenty for guitar. Not so much for bass. Some of them have swapped out preamp tubes for even less power.

The sound of Armageddon without hearing loss is lots of fun.

Thanks for the heads up on the drill idea. I believe I am misusing the term binding and generically using it to refer to the sides of the neck. The fender has a white binding that is very smooth. The edges of the Gibson are visibly an noticeably bumpy. Not that irritates me when when I notice; but mentally it feels cheap compared to the smoothness of the fender.
Should not be as you described. Both of my recent Gibsons (NR and '06 Reverse) are that way. There is a rough spot on the lower corner on the NR, but the '06 is literally flawless.

let’s go!….fun venue, “The Salty Seal” on Cannery Row..

Had Prof in grad school from Saskatchewan. His intellect was something. Authored many books and journal articles.
Well there isn't much to do in Saskatchewan. Might as well research/write.

Raised on a farm if IRCC.
There are only farms in Saskatchewan... And they grow one of wheat, oats, barley, or oilseed rape.
