Thunderbird Club

Nice perspective!

Helped immensely to dial it in the 2nd time round of owning it (had sold it the year later to a guy who was looking for an 800rb, but this came close. Bought it back from him couple years back when he found himself a 1001Rb, so i'm a happy camper xD)

I find I can very quickly get a great tone from any GK by setting all four EQ knobs to just past 12:00. Then just season to taste. For my taste, the Contour button or knob is evil and stays off with extreme prejudice.

The cab its running through at the rehearsal space is an eden 410 something (which considering i've got an swr goliath II 410 & its my absolute favourite 410 cabinet), that GK 800Rb, as i stated, probably needs a good tune up/once over. Cause the volume of it seems to not have the headroom i'm familiar with having on my 400rb. Also figured the 800 deserves to be set bi amped (one cab for lows, the other for highs), as it was designed to be used in that way, as well as full range. Again, won't know until it's serviced, but the rehearsal space won't do that until it's actually non functional. So who knows how long that'll take.

I like GK's for SS amps, they have a little bite.

Indeed they do! I bought mine as a "modern" rendition of my old 70's SS peavey heads which sound amazing. The GK is a little more "portable" & i don't mind it gets beat a little. Mega work horse.

Major bang, little bucks. 500 watts 4x6 and 1x15.

GKs are a long time favorite….took a 400B with a custom built 2x15 enclosure to Europe in the mid 80’s and gigged that thing exclusively for almost a decade….
Bob Gallien is an awesome dude…would really like to get my hands on a 600B….absolute tone monster..

Lots of GK love from me! A 700RBII can be insanely loud - way louder than I've ever needed for any show. Thunderbird+pick+GK+SWR= Yeah, baby!

Very sad today. I had everything on my CP torn down so I could oil the FB, change the foam out on the pickups so I could get them lower, did the final compound polish on the chip repair, cleaned the entire bass and bridge(intentionally took out the saddles). I was ready for new EBCF's. Opened that package and...

That is on your VP? Maybe that's what I need to do to make mine sound like I want it to.
As much as I love VPs, not every string I tried made me love them. The first I tried we just "OK." Strings can make or break just about any bass in my experience. Maybe try a few sets before sending it on its way may be worthwhile. I don't really have a favorite string--not one that will work great on every bass anyway. For my picky tastes, I have to try various strings to find which one brings out the best in any given bass. Worn Boomers (Round Cores as well), Rotos and EBCFs all sounded great to my ear and what I wanted.

Not saying I've played through them all (quite the contrary) but my Lab Series L2 100 W head has one of the best SS tones I have heard. Very warm and it distorts beatifully when needed. Loud too. Bob Moog knew something when he designed the circuit. And it's basically a Gibson amp (Norlin Music) so it's a great match with them T-Birds. ;)
They are still going for bargain prices so I absolutely recommend checking them out.
L4 is just as great and many their guitar heads work for bass (and vice versa).

Great. Something else to wonder about! :D

Maybe that is the problem with EBCFs. The bumpiest flats around...
