Thunderbird Club

A very close second to Lulls are the Sidewinders in V’s mean, purple people eater.
Do you or @TBird1958 recall who made the sidewinders.
Remember, I put the Chinabuckers in the BlingBird as a place holder. They are ok and did provide proof of concept but someday I’ll replace them with better pups. The Lulls have always been high on the list as have been the thunderbuckers and thunder on the tundra pups. Hadn’t given much thought to sidewinders though. Of course the challenge will be to find something in gold.

It was quite something with the bridge pickup off, neck and tone dimed through Chuck's SVT - Pure JAE.
I am sold! Guess the next project will be refinishing the fretless and putting in Lulls. BMM is done, so another color will be in order. There are lots of great colors. Maybe Gretsch orange. Maybe Chevrolet Rallye Green.

The pickups in the Purple '76 are stock Gibson, no gold there. As I have said, they sound good through a big amp - well there was an SVT there - It did not disappoint, but that amp is part of the magic.

Or at Casa Veronica for that matter. Lulls are really, really good.
People here keep saying that, but just hasn't been my experience. My 2 sets have PLENTY of lows, and decent highs. Mids may be a tad soft in the alder body Jazz, but are fine in the mahogany P. A little TC Spark adds mids to the J. The ProBuckers are still in the Embassy I bought to put in the P, I have never considered for one second replacing the EYs. The P is my favorite bass in 52 years of playing., including Sadowskys, Roscoes, Lull T5, MTD, Fbasses, '66J, Sukop, Elrick, Nordstrom, Dingwalls, etc, etc.

Sorry, referenced the wrong post, I meant to reference the one about EYs being thin on the bottom.

My all-time favorite bass above

That is a beautiful FSO.

I jammed last night with the interim worship pastor at our new church, partly just to jam and partly to see about joining the worship team. Had a blast; we gelled really fast. (And yes, I'm in!) Played some new (to me) progressions, too. He loved the sound of my birds through the Rumble. When I asked if he had noticed a preference in the tone of the birds, he indicated the white one. "I wasn't really listening for tone, but I think that one [indicating the CP] had a bit more top end."

I started to disagree, since I'd played the VP first, but reached down to check the tone knob, and sure enough, it was up just a bit (vs off on the VP). He's got a good ear. We like a lot of the same styles, too, from Motown & classic rock through grunge and ska.

Man, it was good to actually play music with a human rather than just practice alone and with recordings! It's been waaaay too long.
